(Merged Thread) Greg Williams Gone After 2005?
 

Perhaps lost in last weeks victory, was Greg Williams name coming up as the "leading" candidate for a couple potential head coach openings. The Rams, were specifically mentioned. After the game, on comcast, Kelly Johnson specifically asked GW about this. He replied, something along the lines of:
He'll be a head coach in the NFL again, but right now, he likes what he doing, where he's doing it at, and he likes working for Joe Gibbs.

I really gotta think if the right opening came up GW might jump on it.

As it stands now, potential openings are...
Rams, Texans, Lions, Raiders, Green Bay?, Titans?

I'd like to see GW stick it out w/ the skins for at least another year, and potentially take over for Gibbs whenever that may be, but for the purposes of discussion and conjecture...What team (s) do you think have an opportunity to lure him away from the skins?

I hear the Chiefs have also been mentioned as a possibility. Which could make sense. They have the offense, but they need someone to shore up that defense. Sort of like what Marvin Lewis has done with Cincy

I think Williams stick around for at least another year.

Money, aside it would be a good to see him stay here post-Gibbs II.

I would like to think that Gregg Williams likes it here enough to stay and that he might be the hier apparent to Joe Gibbs, but I'm just not sure. I can't imagine a situation where you don't listen to head coaching offers.

Like I said in the other thread, if someone offers GW the head coach job he's gone. It wont matter what the redskins pay or what's going on here in redskinland.

I dont know about GW as the heir to Gibbs. His record at Buff was not great (if it was he'd still be there as head coach). It seems he's best suited to be a D-coordinator.

The Lions have Millen, they are in disarray. He probably wouldn't go to he Raiders, as he wouldn't be able to bring anybody in to help the D for cap reasons. Green Bay? Maybe, but I think he'd rather work in the nation's capital. So that leaves the Rams. I think he'll stay.

One advantage to Gregg Williams vs a guy like Marvin Lewis is that he has been a head coach before so I don't know if he'll want to go somewhere like Detroit. He's seen what happens when you go into a bad situation. I doubt he'll want to go down that road again.

Funny, I once heard Steve Spurrier make a similiar comment about his kids in school and so forth.

Hopefully, GW can ward off the offers for a couple of more years and stick it out til Gibbs leaves.

FWIW, Spurrier left his kids in school up here (for a while at least).

Yeah, I saw that too...my point is, these guys make whatever adjustments when the time draweth nigh.

I imagine the real answer is the money. G.W. makes pretty good money as an assistant with the Skins, if he could make more money as a headcoach, he probably would, unless as some of you have mentioned it is a bad situation like the Lions. Some of the teams that are stinking it up right now have coaches in their first years, so they are not leaving aka San Fran and Miami, Cleveland. I hope he does not leave.

Just my opinion, but I thought it odd that GW came here in the first place as head coach's don't normally assume the role of assistant. My conspiratorial red flags were immediately UP.
I figured GW was told if all went well, he would get the team when Joe "hit the silk"...........and
maybe GW thinks "maybe it wouldn't hurt to pick up a few tips from a three time Bowl winnner and HOF member".......and
He is already making head coach type money.
Dan will fix that, if it is a problem.
By the time Joe leaves, much of the really tough work is done! Doesn't get any better.
Washington has a certain allure of POWER. The seat of Government of the most powerful nation on earth is big stuff. I grew up in DC and have lived several places since. The air in DC is addictive. It's a prestigious thing to have the President "check up" on the National Capitols team with an occasional call to the Skins coach.
IMO-Greg Stays!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually it happens all the time.

Not all head coaches that are fired up end back as a head coach right away.
