Dallas Win Won't Mean Sh*t Unless We Beat the Giants
 

I posted the recipe for victory over Dallas before the Dallas game. We covered on 6/7 items I put forth.

Having said that, after watching the game for a third time, once at FEDEX, and twice on TIVO (the greatest invention this century), we will need to come up with a superior and flawless effort against the Giants. Earlier this season, they did to us what we just did to the girls.

It is my belief, that should we win this game, we are thru (I don't like our chances on the road). I think the girls will lose to the panthers; the vikings will lose one of their remaining games (Baltimore and Chicago), and the falcons (who hade to play Carolina and Tampa both still fighting) will lose one or both of their remaining games.

I will post a recipe for the giant's game later on the week.

My 2 cents worth....




Why we will lose and Why we will win...

We will WIN if:

1) Terry Glenn is held in check (no big plays)
2) Moss has at least 2 catches over 20 yds.
3) Our play mix is 60-40 run
4) We convert on 50% of 3rd downs.
5) We win the turnover battle
6) We get at least 3 sacks
7) Portis rushes for 100 yds.

We will LOSE if:

4 out of those 7 don't go our way.

I'm just worried about a letdown, after such an emotional win. When we blew out SF at home, we had a huge letdown against the Giants the next week. I hope Gibbs keeps everyone focused.

Everyone is doing so much celebrating (hard not to, I understand) but we have a short work week and need to start getting ready for New York. They can come in and sew up the division title, so they'll have a lot to play for.

I think if Tiki runs over 200, then all those other things go out the window.

Won't be a let down.
Redskins will rise up yet again at Fed Ex. Only thing I wish is it was a late afternoon or night game. When it's dark out intensity sets in. But reguardless, it'll be a great victory over the Gmen Sunday. Not cause they'll show up like Parcells bunch of PRETENDERS, but because they don't need the win and we do. GO REDSKINS!!!

Excellent insight! These "recipes for sucess" and points on how to win a football game are always so useful. It's like my all-time favorite article by Clark Judge on how to beat the Colts: stop their playmakers, score points yourself, keep them from scoring points.

So, basically to summarize, you're saying we need to play good football and keep the opponent from playing good football?

I'd like to post my 3 Steps to Success for the Giants game - we'll revisit it on Sunday and see if I'm right:

1) Score more points than the Giants (this means we will win)
2) Keep the Giants from scoring more points than we score (this also would mean we win.)
3) Score more points than th...oh wait, we already covered that.

Nothing irks me more than "football experts" tips and prognostications that, when you actually think about them, mean jack. I'm all for intelligent discussion and debate on football, but we seriously have to move beyond the old locker room mantra of "we gotta stop their playmakers and score points ourselves." It's so friggin obvious that's what we have to do, it doesn't take analysis.

Oh, and while we're on the topic of cliche locker room and columnist BS, you can NOT give "110%." 100% is all you can give - it's all you have. You can't give 10% more than you have. If it feels like you're giving 110%, you clearly underestimated what you originally had to give.

simply put we win the last two and we are in period.
10-6 will get them in no questions asked.afterall this is payback time for the skins.
the only letdown i see is in philadelphia not the giants,just because the iggles have nothing to play for and we do.

i really hope the atmosphere is as electric at fed ex this week.i was at the playoff game in 1999 and that was nothing compared to sunday.manning has been below average the last couple of weeks so we need portis to control the clock against tiki running effectively against us.i think our defense has responded to a bit of a mid season slump and is really playing well right now

This will be the true test for gibbs and staff to get the team back up after such a big win. I think gibbs will just tell the team that their playoffs started in the beginning of Dec instead of the end, no big deal, just play your guts out and the win will happen.

Yeah the Giants will be playing safe strategic play which you can game plan for. The Eagles will be playing non traditional football, going for it on 4th downs big reward type play verse the kick a field goal, punt type game. Very dangerous game in Phili. Tiki scares me as he not only put big numbers up on us he is doing it weekly so it was not just a fluke the dude is for real. He we definitely need to have a spy on him, because he kills you out of the backfield as well. Dangerous combination.

bingo...I know the whole "if they can't get up for this game, blah, blah, blah." But after all, they are human, its just normal for them to lose some intensity after such a great game. I guess thats joe's job, he's not gettng paid 5 mil to sit there and look pretty!

I think Gibbs is playing this Giants game psycologically, as well as he can. He said in his press conference yesterday that he is giving the guys Monday and Tuesday off. They will get this win out of their system by then and come Wednesday it will be all business again. They will see their game plan on Wed. and begin to change gears for Sunday. I am just excited that this game is at Fed-X. I think that will play a significant factor in the player's emotional level and intensity. The Skins desperately need to jump on the Giants early like they did the Cowboys and just take them out of the game. Hey, like they did the Skins in N.Y!

I would be lying if I said the Dallas sweep didn't mean anything to me. Regardless of what happens this year, those games were definitely huge highlights of the season and two of the greatest wins I've witnessed in my time as a Skins fan. In future years I think we'll look back on those 2 big wins very fondly.

In the grand scheme of things, the Dallas win is worth more than just a W. For the first time in ten years we swept the Cowboys, and to top it off we won a high stakes game in December in convincing fashion. The confidence that these guys will take with them on the field is worth more than just a "W." Instead of needing help, we can concentrate solely on the Giants and shutting down Tiki.

And it even has dividends for us fans. No more Cowboys fans in the Warpath running their traps about their clearly inferior team.
