Redskin Football
Folks,
This is why the Redskins have a four game winning streak and a chance to wrap up a playoff spot next week. We're playing good ol' fashioned smash mouth Redskins football. This is what us older guys have been trying to tell the younger guys. When it is clicking on all cylinders, you can't stop it even when you're expecting it. The strong run game opens up the play action passes (as seen with Brunell to Moss in the first half.) Of course, having guys like Moss on your team really helps your chances. I haven't felt this good about the Redskins since the 80's...and yes that does also include our 1999 season. :biggthump |

Amen!

Re: Redskin Football
Nice post skinsguy, I just want to know do the non-believers, the ones who said Gibbs can't handle this new NFL that the game had passed him by, do they believe now?

Re: Redskin Football
I'm one of the young guys who was doubting Gibbs in the beginning, but I'm man enough to tell you that I was wrong. He's got this team peaking at the right time. He's switched it up enough to get Portis going. I'm no longer waiting for the bottom to fall out, I just expect them to win now and this is only the second time in my life that I can remember feeling that way.
The other time was 99. That season wasn't nearly this sweet though. |
Re: Redskin Football
What's great about these wins is that the Skins are outplaying the other team, not winning on a fluke play or a bad call. Gibbs was always known for having his teams ready to play in December, when it really counts, and it looks like this year is no exception.
They are playing their best football of the year now. I honestly thought they were finished 5 games ago, but I was dead wrong and I'm more than happy to be able to admit that I was. Kudos to Joe and his staff, to the entire team (especially Ramsely who stepped up to the plate in a tough situation and did great) and to the 12th man (you can be heard loud and clear on the boob tube). Just one more hurdle to jump and the finish line is in sight. I honestly believe they will take the Division now. This loss will take a lot out of the Giants and they have to fly across the country and take on the Raiders. |
Re: Redskin Football
did you just call me an old guy?the key to winning football is running(smash mouth)the ball and time of possesion.if you dont believe me,just ask coach gibbs

Re: Redskin Football
Woohoo!

Re: Redskin Football
well i feel i have loved the way we have been playing and i think skins fans kept the faith but we are all so scared that we can't even say we will win next week because once we say it it will dissapear.
Being 17 i don't remeber the good days. the first time in my life that i think our team can do something |
Re: Redskin Football
skins were solid today. they are playing as a team. We want Philly!
|
Re: Redskin Football
I believe we can beat Philly and I don't feel the Redskins are going into that game overly confident. However, Gibbs has lit a fire underneath this team, and you can see it in guys like Portis. I remember people several weeks back saying how Portis would get hit once and he would be down. Look at his effort now! This is why I am such a big Redskins fan and Joe Gibbs fan. I live to see the smash mouth football and the attitude that we're going to run the football down your throat and we don't care if you see it coming or not.

LOL! One thing I find interesting is that alot of people say we're attacking more than what we have this season. What exactly are we doing different? We're still running the ball on first and second down. We're still using that little WR screen pass that people hate to see. We're still dumping the ball off to Cooley or Robert Royal. Could it possibly be that the players are executing and playing mistake free football? Take away at least half of those turnovers we committed earlier this season, and the Redskins would have already had the NFC East title wrapped up a couple weeks ago. With the exception of the Arizona game, we've done a pretty good job of limiting the turnovers - if not eliminating them altogether. You can still win if you turn the ball over once, but in those losses, we turned the ball over at least three times. The point is, we're not making mistakes. We're not turning the ball over constantly...we're executing the SAME PLAYS WE HAVE BEEN RUNNING ALL SEASON LONG! There is nothing Gibbs has done so different that has made a difference. Look how people were complaining about Gibbs being way too conservative.....then look how we ran the ball on first and second down all day long against the Giants. The only thing we are doing different now is that we are protecting the football better. That's it. When we play mistake free football, our "simple" offense can't be stopped....just like it was back in the 1980's. I betcha as long as we don't turn the ball over against the Eagles...we'll win the game. IF we turn the ball over three times or more, we'll lose the game. That has been proven fact all season long (with the exception of the Arizona game.) Again, we're playing pure old fashioned Joe Gibbs' Redskins football and it is working like a charm! |

When players aren't executing and turning it over, the blame game all points to the playcalling/coaching for some reason. All of a sudden once everyone is clicking, the playcalling is amazing. It's the same damn stuff we've been doing all year, only thing is like you said skinsguy we're not turning it over and we're executing to a T on both sides of the ball. |
