Do we REALLY need a star DE?
Or do we already have one....
Phillip Daniels has been playing amazing football. I know he has injury problems, but this guy could end up being a steal. When he has Salav'ae and Griffin in there to push the middle he gets amazing push off the edge. Even Wynn had a big game today@! |
Re: Do we REALLY need a star DE?
I'd like to see us use a draft pick on a young guy. Maybe look for an up-and-coming guy in free agency.

Re: Do we REALLY need a star DE?
really who doesn't? Gettting one will do so much more for our d, but really, we need a compliment to moss ...
|
Re: Do we REALLY need a star DE?
It looks like to really get into that elite level of play we could use a young stud DE, another DT (Nobles replacement) and a 2nd WR. Thats it. Should be easy to fill those needs between seasons. Then again, we seem to be rolling without these things...

Re: Do we REALLY need a star DE?
It's obvious when our DT's are healthy this is a much more effective defensive line.
I think DE should still be a priority though. |
Re: Do we REALLY need a star DE?
we need someone who can flat out rush the passer.doesnt much matter who the #2 receiver is because who ever the qback is they only look to moss(which is a good thing)

Re: Do we REALLY need a star DE?
While I've been impressed with the pressure created by not only daniels but Clemons as well, I'd like the skins to still pick up another young pass rushing specialist and if Taylor Jacobs doesn't start to play, it's time to cut him lose and look for someone with a good combination of speed and size to compliment Moss. I don't know if anyone else watched a bit of the Hawaii Bowl last night but Central Florida has this Marshall kid who looks like he could be a pretty special talent and it'd be kewl if we could get someone like him with our 2nd round pick.

Re: Do we REALLY need a star DE?
I'm not ready to write off Patten just yet for next year.
He never really had the chance to shine this year. Early in the year as an offense we were obsessed with Moss for obvious reasons... but I think Patten would have played a bigger role as the season went on. I think he can still be a solid #2. |
Re: Do we REALLY need a star DE?
im ready to write him off knee surgeries after 30 for a reciever never turns out well.

Re: Do we REALLY need a star DE?
I dont understand the pure hate for Taylor Jacobs. In the Dallas game, he often had his man beat but Brunell never looks his way. I'd like to see him at least get an attempt at catching the ball till we say he cant cut it.

Re: Do we REALLY need a star DE?
I'd like to see an above average/stud DE, a good WR to compliment Moss, and a stud left guard.
Other than that, lock in Sellers, Ryan Clark, Lemar Marshall, SalaveA, possibly even Betts to long term deals. Atleast we won't be giving up a top 10 draft pick to Denver in next year's draft. |
Re: Do we REALLY need a star DE?
guys...im sorry unfortunately i had to follow yesterdays game on NFL.com...so i didnt get to see who was playing.
Did taylor jacobs play yesterday???? And is he still our number 2 receiver? I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens with Brunell's health this week...but to me the real test of knowing whether Jacobs has it...would be to give him the start this week if Brunell isnt ready to go and Ramsey gets the nod. I say this because i feel like brunell mostly looks to moss and cooley before the 2nd receiver...which doesnt leave much of an opportunity for our 2nd receivers to get the ball cause once hes gone through two progressions hes usually either found someone...or thrown the ball away. Thus i think we really havnt seen what patten or jacobs is capable of...and if Ramsey gets the nod...id be interested to see if there would be a noticeable difference in jacobs contribution to the team. If nothing else...it would tell us whether we actually need to go out and spend the money on another receiver...or whether we simply need to make a concerted effort to get more plays called for the 2nd receiver going into next season...for whoever our starting QB is. With respect to a defensive end...i think the last couple of games what we've shown...is that we dont need a superstar. What we do need is depth. Guys who are good...and can rotate in and out...who can make plays, and who will be able to step up if another guy gows down. The problem a little earlier in the season...is that we really didnt have the depth we needed and so when salavea and griffen were banged up...noone was able to step in in their places. I would be all for investing in an up and coming DE. Like the guy from Green Bay, Aaron Kampman. Or perhaps, kyle Vanden Bosch from Tenesse. He's had a great season...but prolly wont command too big a contract because he's had previous injury problems. These are guys that are just finishing their rookie contracts...and have shown steady improvement since entering the league...or have begun to realize their potential. Anyway, the point is i would rather have guys like this...cause they fit the workmanlike mold of our team, and we wouldnt have to break the bank to get them. When you consider you could prolly get a good d-end, dtackle, and backup O-lineman...all for the price of a probowl defensive end...i really feel like its better to get a few guys who can all step up...and help you in different areas...then just place all your hopes in one guy. Finally, my ideal offseason beyond the few choice free agent signings ive mentioned would see us getting marylands, vernon davis. The guy is going to be a ****ing monster. And if we had him and chris cooley in the game, plus our current offensive weapons...and a permanent solution at QB...i really think we could have one of the better offenses in the league! |

As usual people's patience runs thin really quick around here. :) I've always been a Jacobs supporter myself, but I'm starting to wonder when is the guy gonna step up already? Perhaps he's just not getting open, or perhaps the offense is just so heavily geared toward Cooley and Moss (which isn't a bad thing right now). I'm guessing it has more to do with the latter. |

We have had Jacobs for a while, and he is too injury prone. Plus the few chances he has had, he has not done anything to significant. That may be because of the lack of playing time, but right now I do not trust him to carry the Skins at all as the second reciever. I trust Trash much more than him, and I think more balls will have to go towards Trash agaisnt Philly. Whenever Moss has a big game, the next game after most teams double or triple team him, and they know about Cooley now too. |
