Re: Worst Halftime Ever?

The whole Superbowl hoopla lasts too long. The halftime, more like a liftetime. The commercials are overhyped. Everything is way over the top. The game seems meaningless. It can't live up to the hype.

i thought they all sounded awful. AF was the only one that was halfway decent.

The problem with the motown thing is a lot of the really really popular original artist are either ancient or dead now.

Besides, McCartney has done some work with MoTown artists in the past. So maybe he's not entirely seen as someone from "over there", if you will.

I will say the National Anthem was atrocious. I couldn't believe it. The year the Whitney Houston did the National Anthem was the best!

the britney spears/nsync/aerosmith(I think)/and nelly(I think) goes down as the worst HT show as I can't even remember everyone involved cuz I've tried to block it from my mind. the stones were absolutely pathetic though and I made use of the second half of their performance to make a bathroom run. I liked parts of the pregame show, but I couldn't hear what Stevie was singing half the time and the National Anthem has become painful to listen to. I like the idea of school marching bands and I'd like to see the National Anthem done by professional singers like broadway performers or people with a voice like the guy who does the NA for the NY Yankees. the last few National anthems performers that I really enjoyed were Ray Charles, Boyz 2 Men, and Whitney Houston.

Gladis Night would have been great show. I'm not sure if she was a Motown person but she is from that time period and she is still a great singer and performer.

Re: Worst Halftime Ever?

Why not Stevie Wonder himself? He goes with the over the hill theme that the NFL has taken because of the Janet Jackson incident.

Re: Worst Halftime Ever?

Whoever was working the board for the Stones should be flogged. Everything was off, which is pretty inexcusable for a 10 minute set.

I agree with the anthem - there are things you can do to "personalize" it without trashing the whole song.

When the sound is tested the stadium is empty and you have to kind of guess on how much it will change with a packed stadium. I would say it was about 50/50 both the sound and the Stones sounded rough. Another thing I noticed is that the sound for TV sounded like it was coming from microphones and not a direct feed from the board and that can realy screw with the sound.

I'm talking about timing, not the initial mix. They forgot to turn up Ron Wood's guitar for his solo until about 5-10 seconds into it. Jaggar's mike was all over the place, although, you're right, it's hard to tell whether that was the board or just Mick forgetting to use the mike.

I would guess that the RS would have had their own person running the board. most bands of any size have a sound crew which after everything is set up they take over and run the system.

Re: Worst Halftime Ever?

Sound was terrible, performance was weak--though that could have been a result of the sound. But whatever: this is the biggest sporting event. Take some friggin time to make it all work!!! Pathetic. Bring back the boob!

(I don't know if this is the worst ever--lots of them suck. But it was up there...)

I had just cut on the radio in my car waiting for my wife to go to a SB party. The anthem was playing and I to listen for a while to figure out if this was some kind of joke or maybe I had the wrong channel on. It was just the worst thing I had ever hear.If anyone has a link to it I would love for my wife to hear it she did not believe me that it was that bad.
