| Re: Is Brunell a good quarterback? who the hell would take leftwich over brunell. has been injured at college, and still hasnt played a season without getting hurt. i wouldnt take rothlesberger, either. i think a good young quarterback that is a product of a system. the steelers will be interesting this year without the bus. who is going to run the ball, duce? thats funny just thinking about it

What is so great about Byron Leftwich at this stage of his career? Maybe you were suggesting that we're better off with Byron Leftwich for the long haul than we are with Mark Brunell, and that I could understand. But I have no idea why that kind of thinking even enters the equation when our QB of the future is already sitting on our bench. Look at last year's performance: They both had completion % of 57%. Brunell's QB rating was 86, Leftwich's was 89, about the same. Brunell fumbled 10 times in 16 games, Leftwich fumbled 8 times in 11 games. Interception/TD ratio was similar, Brunell was 23/10 and Leftwich was 15/5. Their performance seems the same to me. And don't forget, Leftwich is coming off a broken ankle. It will likely be fine, but wouldn't you rather have Randy Thomas coming into this season without having to recover from a broken leg? I'd take Brunell for this season. He's not coming off major injury, he's got more experience, and he produces just like Leftwich. I just don't get how you can suggest that you'd take Leftwich in a heartbeat over Brunell. The only way it makes sense is if you're taking him for the long haul. | |

| Re: Is Brunell a good quarterback? hey steveo, remember how good a scrub like tommy maddox looked for the steelers before he got hurt? and willie parker had 1200 yards mainly running on the edge of the field. bettis got all of the tough yards between the tackles(where games are won) who gets those yards now? if parker stays on the field the entire game now he doesnt finish the season healthy

Willie Parker had a lot of carries each game, so there is no way that he ran outside every play. Nobody gets 255 carries and doesn't go through the middle. They also have Verron Haynes and Duce Staley to make up for the few yards that Bettis got. They are both big backs that got more yards per carry than bettis last year. And Roethlisberger will probably pass it more, now that he is more experienced and he has shown that he can handle it. He will have a great season...and it's not because of the system.
