I unfortunately see a team in every bit of an offensive funk as they were towards the tail end of the season of 05. Against Philidelphia in the last game the offense looked a little suspect, then against Tampa Bay it was dead, and again in Seattle it was never revived. Since those games the progression has only become worse. Four straight awful preseason games followed by two pathetic regular season games for a total of potentially nine games now that they have looked horrendous on offense. So one has to begin to question what happened around this time....and there it is. The injury to Brunell. Since that time Brunell has been playing not to get hurt and not to win. The fire in Brunell is not only gone but completely burned out. When the fire of Brad Johnson (who is almost 2 years Brunells senior) is greater we have real problems. Did anyone notice Brad's comments when he scored the tying touchdown...something like "motherf&*&er". I would love to have a quaterback with that passion. Instead after each unnecessary toss away pass, or patheticly missed throw he walks off the field with an air of smug appathy and acceptace of his feeble abilities. He looks to Gibbs as if saying "I'm not sure what happened". I can tell you what happened. You are way way past your prime, and your passion for this game and for winning is nonexsistent to the point that it is apparent in every play you are a part of. In short...the time is to move on. Not next season...not in 4 games..but next game. Anyone who thinks we are going to even make it to the playoffs this year is fooling themselves...not in this division...not this year. If we accept that the future is Jason Cambell then why not move in this direction now. Give the kid a chance to grow and if we finish poor this season at least we may get a decent draft from it. I finish with this.

The defense and special...not the offense kept us in the game. And when the defense put the Skins in a position to tie at the 40 yard line it was not Cooley, Moss, Betts, Lloyd, Sellers, Al Saunders, or even Gibbs who gave away the drive and in the end lost the game. It was Brunell!
YEAH, well said

Re: Time to bench Brunell?

That is what's really scary. Let me create the scenario. Imagine if the O line again looks weak. If they can pressure Brunell the offense essentially shuts down. The D probably will hold against a weak Texans team, but the possiblity that a team like the Texans could even complete against the Skins tells you how low we have gone. There has to be a change. At least with Cambell I assume he would be more adept at escaping the rush a perhaps make they pay for it a few times with a pass or run.

To go on the record.....I want nothing more than for the Redskins to make the playoffs (I have been waiting 15 years since the last SB)..and I hate to even contemplate not making it....but surely everyone is aware of our current hole. All the more reason for a major change. This team, in the state its in, is not capable of that fundental mental shift without a manmade change....I.E....Brunell.

Re: Time to bench Brunell?

Just one last thing....Let's look at history and the teams that we all respect and admire the most...the teams who create a dynasty...whether it be 2,3, or 4 years. Each and everyone of those dynasties had one common but extremely important similiarity: A Franchise Quaterback. How many of you are sick of going through QB after QB season after season. There is absolutely no way Brunell is the Franchise Quaterback and to be honest I can't think of in the last 20 some odd years that we have had a better chance for a Franchise Quaterback than Cambell. He's young, he was talented in College, and he has been under only one coach in the pros...Gibbs. We have what we have always wanted (untested no less), but its all there. There is only one way to really know.

Start Cambell next week.

Re: Time to bench Brunell?

Brunell is no longer a good QB, however you need to think about your alternatives. If Brunell is the best you have, you have to go with him. That's like if Eli is playing poorly, should the Giants bench him for Jared Lorenzen?

Re: Time to bench Brunell?

i hate to say i told you so. last year for brunell was a fluke. no arm strength,no legs looking to throw the ball away or go down. its a damn shame that gibbs is going to throw awaythe season for loyality to brunell when ramsey wasnt this bad playing for coach gibbs.

Re: Time to bench Brunell?

4 more weeks. If we get Portis back next week, we have Houston, Jacksonville, NY Giants and Tennesee, a couple big games and a couple teams we should beat and the opportunity to get some momentum going.

Re: Time to bench Brunell?

Wow, what happened to the 2006 skins I have been seeing in my head the whole off-season? Hopefully, not gone. Just MIA. Replacing Brunell is not the answer at this point. the season is young, and while serious, our season is not done. We have fundamental problems that have to be fixed before it can be Brunell's fault. We have David Carr syndrom. The other teams D is spending way to much time chasing our QB. We need a runing game. Where the hell did our O-line go? Important safety tip: This is bad!!!! 300 yards in penalties does not a win make!!!!!! Can anyone name a team that changed QB's in the season that actually improved their situation? I personally do not know. Oh yea, Note to Springs-We MISS YOU

Re: Time to bench Brunell?

Brunnell is making the O-line look worse than it is on passing plays. There is no speed or urgency to the way he takes the snap, drops back and fires the ball to a receiver. If you go back and look at the first quarter, MB had plenty of protection and couldn't get the ball to anyone. This is a COMBINATION of having lost his courage/passion/whatever AND having a new 700 page playbook. This dog is not only lame, but he ain't learning any new tricks.

Whether we bench him now comes down to what's best for JC's development. The WIN NOW AT ALL COSTS mentality of this franchise has been what's killed us in the Snyder era . . . no methodical development of draft picks, coaching staff, etc . . . so if throwing JC out there is going to shellshock the lad, don't do it. On the other hand, if he's our guy for the future, playing is the only way to get better.

Re: Bench Brunell

campbell is accurate. yeah he'll make mistakes, but at this point, can you honestly see brunell leading the skins to a superbowl??

I can't, and if we want a run before the window closes, we need to see if we've got a guy to get us there. He'll never get experience if you keep saying we can't put him because he doesn't have experience. and next year brunell will just be older and an even bigger injury risk. he hasn't made it through an entire season healthy in the last four or five years.

If he doesn't show something by halftime against one of the VERY worst teams in the league, it's time to see what we've got in campbell, cause cause we won't get to the postseason like this (and i'm not assuming campbell is going to come in and play like a pro bowler). I just want to see something to prove that we're better than the lions :/.

Well technically the Patriots in 2001 started 0-2 and switched from Bledsoe to Brady shortly thereafter. The rest, as they say, is history.

Nice post though, I agree with what you say

Re: Brunell Solely Responsible for Loss?

its not just him, but i think he is a primary cause, and i'm not really sure saunders was really needed that badly.

Re: Time to bench Brunell?

if brunell isnt grasping this offense, it makes absolutely no sense to stick j campbell as the starter. learning the ins and outs of the nfl is complicated enough without trying to learn a new offense for like the 6th year in a row

Re: Time to bench Brunell?

we seriously need to try and throw the ball alittle over 20 yards when its not third and long. our playcalling was horrible. are they trying to protect brunells arm strength? only the coaches know that answer

Re: Time to bench Brunell?

I think putting in Campbell against the Texans would be the best game to do it. They are one of the weaker opponents we are going to face this year. I don't know how many more games I can get my hopes up so high, just to be dashed. We looked worse than the last playoff game against Seattle. I really did not think it could get worse than that. I am aware of the new offense and all that but we bring in 2 new recievers and we are only able to get the ball to them 2 times? Lloyd has 2 games under his belt and 1 catch. I think we start Campbell next game and see what happens. Could he be any worse?
