| Franchising Chris Cooley With what has happened with Dockery and if the Reskins don't resign Chris Cooley before next offseason I would think the Redskins would have to use the Franchise Tag on Cooley since he is just a huge part of the offense and other teams would throw huge money at him. Anyone heard anything on the Cooley negotiations and wheteher the Skins will indeed use the Franchise tag on him if things break down? |

| Re: Franchising Chris Cooley i swear if we let chris cooley hit the market, i will be pretty mad, even more so than i was when we didn't sign dockery before free agency started. If they don't get a deal done with him i fully expect them to use the tag on him. |

| Re: Franchising Chris Cooley I'm pretty sure Taylor is under contract until 2011, and I doubt we will franchise Cooley, we will get a deal done with him before he hits FA. |

| Re: Franchising Chris Cooley Taylor doesn't hit the market until 2011 so I don't know what the talk of him is all about. Franchising Cooley would make sense. We haven't heard anything on negotiations with him because the team is busy worrying about filling out the roster for this year. Cooley negotiations will ramp up next season. I doubt they'd let him leave. But sit tight, because there won't be any news on him for a while. |

| Re: Franchising Chris Cooley A lot can happen between now and the end of next season. I wouldn't worry about Cooley. But, I think you certainly franchise Cooley if a deal can't be worked out before FA starts next year. He's definitely a core Redskins player. I'm just glad we got Smoot back. I hope we don't lose Springs.

| Re: Franchising Chris Cooley The Redskins will never have the cap room to use a franchise tag on anyone. That tag requires you to have cap room for a 1 year contract of the average of the top 5 at that position.

No, that's flatout inaccurate. People were writing last year the skins would have to cut their top 20 players to get under the cap, didn't happen did it? The TE franchise tag might not be so bad. Antonio Gates caved on his contract, so that tag should really be higher than it is for the top 5 guys. | |

safeties and TEs are cheap to franchises though. Franchise tag - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 4.4-4.5mill for franchised safeties/TEs in 2007 (and arch's contract feeds into that :/ ).

| Re: Franchising Chris Cooley except that fullbacks cost 7mill to franchise and TEs cost 4.5mill. (FBs are lumped in with running backs, just like OGs are grouped with OTs).
