| M. Washington at defensive end in passing situations Paul Woody in the latest Team Report in Sporting News says that Marcus Washington will line up at defensive end in passing situations. Maybe this is old news, but it caught my eye. That sounds like a great idea, taking advantage of our depth at linebacker, with Marshall or Posey able to take Washington's spot, and giving Philip Daniels more rest to keep him fresh on other downs. Assistant head coach/defense Gregg Williams has been talking up the improved play of WLB Rocky McIntosh during the offseason. Now, McIntosh has to show he's ready to start and excel in his second season in the league. McIntosh's performance is pivotal because the team wants to take Marcus Washington out of coverage in passing situations and line him up as a defensive end to rush the passer. McIntosh has to show he can handle coverage in these situations. ... | Re: M. Washington at defensive end in passing situations Yeah it's old news, but I agree I like the sound of it. MW needs to be more involved with getting after the passer, he's shown in the past it's something he excels at. |

| Re: M. Washington at defensive end in passing situations Hopefully the hip stays in good shape. Light guys like that need to use them to get around the lineman.

| Re: M. Washington at defensive end in passing situations He's no smaller than Freeney really and it would only be on passing downs where I think they are concerend that his effectiveness could be hampered by the hip. From the reports we've heard Rocky has the athleticism to be great on coverage. We already know Fletcher and Marshall are good in coverage so keeping him in to rush the passer makes a lot of sense to me. I'd rather have those four guys in and either Daniels or Golston out on passing downs. Probably Golston as it sounds like Daniels will slide inside to DT in this situation. |

| Re: M. Washington at defensive end in passing situations So is this somehow some sort of indication that the team doesn't like the way he plays linebacker? (the way a lot of people took it when Marvin had LaVar do the same thing)

| Re: M. Washington at defensive end in passing situations I really think it is more about looking at the talent we have and realizing that MW is probably a better pass rusher off the edge than everyone except Carter coupled with the fact that we have 3 more than capable LBs for coverage. It is just the best use of talent. |

| Re: M. Washington at defensive end in passing situations I think this would likely be in Nickel/Dime situations. We'd simply take out a lineman instead of a linebacker. Makes sense, given our depth.

| Re: M. Washington at defensive end in passing situations This is not a good idea, he is not a D end. It would be smarter to move him around or bring him off the edge with the idea of getting him matched up with RB or TE, not OT. I'm confident this is how G Williams will use Marcus! |

| Re: M. Washington at defensive end in passing situations He played DE in college and isn't very much lighter than some DEs around the league. LaVar managed 11 sacks rushing from the DE spot, I think MW could be capable of similar results. |

![]() But seriously, I was a big advocate for bringing AC here about a year before we signed him so I'm not giving up on him now JDaly, while I agree with you on Carter's worth that personal attack was out of line
