| Redskins Insider: Tough Start For the Draft Picks Redskins Insider Morning practice is over. LaRon Landry, the top pick, is still unsigned for now and not here. Two other draft picks, tight end Tyler Ecker and linebacker HB Blades, were carted off the field (updates on their injuries are not available yet), and another QB Jordan Palmer, looks rough thus far (thought it is quite early). That leaves just LB Dallas Sartz, if you're keeping score at home. Didn't appear the injury to Blades was that severe (Ecker seemed to need a bit more assistance) but that's just guessing. Otherwise, Randy Thomas was the only regular out. His knee is still bothering him and Joe Bugel, O Line coach, said he does not expect Thomas to be on the field until sometime next week as they take every precaution with his return ... Everyone sang Happy Birthday to tackle Chris Samuels before practice, as he turned 30 today. Bugel joked that Samuels shouldn't expect too many gaudy gifts from his teammates, since Chris can be pretty tight himself. "Chris has deep pockets," Bugel joked, "his hands just aren't able to reach all the way to the bottom of them." ... Linebacker Marcus Washington, who the coaches plan to use as an ed often, playing his his hand down, continues to work with the D Lineman during technique drills at the start of practice ... Former Redskins Joe Theismann has been on the field hanging around the QBs. Joe will be part of preseason broadcasts this season ... Our guy Casey Bramlet chatted for a while today. He refuses to boast about being the final World Bowl MVP ever - and trust me I tried to get him to thump his chest - and said that despite rumors about the league going under, the final decision stunned some people in Germany. There were two years left on the operating agreements with the teams over there and the equipment guys in Hamburg, Casey's team, had just ordered $1 million worth of new gear when the NFL folded Europa. "I really loved playing over there, and the city of Hamburg had really started the take to the team the last three years," Bramlet said. "We got 35,000 people for our last game and lot of people were sad to see us go." |

| Re: Redskins Insider: Tough Start For the Draft Picks No biggie injuries, but can you say Taylor Jacobs? The only guy worth a damn isn't even in camp. My bet is Landry is the only one on the 53 man roster after it is all said and done. Maybe on or two to the practice squad. Another waste of a draft. |

| Re: Redskins Insider: Tough Start For the Draft Picks Wow. A groin and cramps bring comparisons with Taylor J. And we're giving up on the draft already? A little patience here, GusF... |

You are right though, you don't spend day 2 picks on players and then not give them roster or practice squad spots. You pick them with the plan to fit them into your team in mind. | |

| Re: Redskins Insider: Tough Start For the Draft Picks I see Blades being the eventual replacement for London Fletcher. I saw him play alot in college and the guy is real good.

There ARE players are taken deep in the draft that live long NFL lives. With our poor depth at LB, they will easily make the team, and with watching players like Fletcher and Washington, they have good mentors to become good players. I guarentee they make the team.

| Re: Redskins Insider: Tough Start For the Draft Picks Umm, do the names Jared Newberry, Robert McCune, Kili Lefotu, and Manuel White Jr. ring a bell? They are all day 2 draft picks that never came close to making an impact for this team. Let's be real -- it's not unusual for 5th, 6th, or 7th round draft picks not panning out. Especially when this front office is calling the shots. Heck, only Golston and Montgomery are exceptions to the rule. Until there's a geniune change of direction for this team, the skepticism for guys like Sartz and Blades is well founded if you ask me. |
