What I Saw at Camp 8/4

Howdy! I just went to my first day of 'skins training camp today and I gotta say it was interesting. First of all, it had to have been about 500 degrees outside (geez 2:00 practice, I should have known ). At least I got prime seats though. I was lined up right at the 30 yard line where a lot of 9-on-9 drills were going on. I also got a great view of the 11-on-11 scrimmage later.
Early on, I was pretty surprised with quite a few things. First off, Chris Samuels and Jon Jansen are massive! Rock Cartwright is little, but as solid as they come. As far as play goes, I think that certain players did awesome jobs. Patrick Ramsey seems to be throwing pretty accurately. He had a couple of nice passes during the 11-on-11 drills at the end. He threw one awesome pass to Darnerian McCants, but he dropped it (McCants seemed to have butterfingers today; I think he missed 3 fairly catchable balls). McCants stayed after practice running hard though, and even signed a few autographs on his way in.
Rod Garner impressed me. He seemed to adjust to the ball very well after it was thrown and it seemed like every time he went up into traffic, he always came down with the ball. His hands seemed to have improved tremendously since last season when it didn't seem like he could catch a cold. Brunnell threw well and made reads pretty quickly, but I think today was definitely a day for Ramsey overall.
Lavernues Coles had a little bit of a limp, but once he got on the field he seemed to be perfectly healthy again. I have to emphasize that I think his gloves are made of glue, what awesome hands! Clinton Portis didn't have his best receiving day, but he didn't get great passes either.
The defense was doing a pretty good job of generating pressure. The line was getting some pretty good push and Williams really used the linebackers pretty well. Sean Taylor showed a couple more flashes on the field. He came seemingly out of no where to bat down one ball right before it entered the receiver's hands. On another play, right after a receiver caught the ball, Sean Taylor was already in the process of tackling him.
Shawn Springs was doing pretty well and someone I talked to actually got his autograph after practice. However, I wasn't so lucky. Scott Cloman and Gari Scott did come by later and I got their autographs. They seem like very nice guys too.
Just some tips if you all are planning on going:

1) Bring a lot of water!
2) Bring a lot of water! (trust me it's that important)
3) Unless you really tire easily, I wouldn't even recommend bringing a chair. (I bought mine and never used it)
4) Come about an hour early if you want some prime seats
5) Bring $ .50 + $ 2.25 for the toll road each way.
6) If you want autographs, there is a fence all the way at the end of the field around where players enter; line up around there for after practice.
7) Bring your 'skins spirit so you can cheer like heck!

I feel like I'm there, man!

I feel like I'm there, man! Except for the Water thing!
My Godson and his brother-in-law are heading up the road to go to a practice.

I warned them about the water thing already!

If you're cheap like I am, you can skip the toll roads by coming out route 7 and come down rt607 (the road that Redskins Park is on) from the north. Once you get on route 607, you think its the wrong road, as its not paved, but once you get close to Redskins Park it becomes paved. I feel like I'm Luke Duke everytime I drive on it!!! That road is going to be paved and widened in the near future, btw.

thanks man. It sucks that its so hot up there, but the Dophins arent even getting to practice. All it has done is rain here, and I mean pour. Those big huge drops that make you soaking wet in like two seconds. THeir field is probably flooded.

Hey, that's pretty funny man! Yeah thanks, I think I might use the good ol' 4 wheel drive jeep and navigate the wilderness today (I hate tolls).

Yeah man, outdoor practices have got to be hard living out on the panhandle in Florida. Geez, it's not even hurricane season yet either! btw, is indoor training camp still open to fans there?

well, there is a tropical storm creating rain throughout the east coast (might turn into or already be a hurricane, not sure), so maybe it came early just for them maybe its all ricky's fault...
