Gibbs' Postgame Press Conference

http://www.redskins.com/news/newsDetail.jsp?id=2827

On Jon Jansen's injury and his status:
"I have to tell you we had a big downer there. It took a lot out of us there for a while. I told him the main thing now is to get this fixed and get back here so he can work with Buges [offensive line coach Joe Bugel] for the rest of the year. He means a lot to the team as a leader."

On Sean Taylor:
"He played great. He had a real good week of practice, too. He's very athletic and from where I was standing-obviously we'll have to study the film for a better evaluation-I'll tell you he was very impressive. He made some big plays."

On being on the sidelines again:
"It felt different to get back out there in the heat of battle. A lot has changed about the game and it's still a big learning curve for me. It was like a mental test. In the first half, we couldn't get anything going offensively. We really struggled. It was a hard first half. And that's my fault. I'm the guy who's got to make it go here, so I kind of took that to heart. But it was good to be back out there. I really appreciate the players-I told them that-because of their attitude."

On how much he learned about his players from the game:
"Obviously we'll study this film and it's a learning process, that's the best thing about it. Denver came after us with some stuff, so there are some real lessons there. I think there'll be a lot of learning on the film. We played a lot of the guys."

On whether he made any halftime adjustments:
"Really what we did at halftime was cut things down a little bit. We had better execution in the second half and we finally got going with some plays in the run game and the pass game. We kind of got behind on the run in the first half, I wanted to take some shots but we kept on getting ourselves in a hole there."

On whether it was fun to be back in the heat of the battle:
"It's pressure-packed, I tell you that. You have to be extremely well organized. You go in at halftime and you make some adjustments based on what they're doing, but you also cut things down and shorten the game plan a little bit.."

On the quarterbacks:
"The offense for the first few quarters, we just couldn't get stuff going. I was real disappointed because I thought we had some things going receiver-wise. There'll be a lot to learn from the film. I think Tim Hasselbeck got us going there-he hit a fade pass which we hadn't been able to get. We'll take a hard look at all of the things going on there. But Tim did a real good job there. I've been bragging on him all the way. He's a guy who every now and then in practice I'll see someone do something impressive, and it's Tim. Our offense got going in the second half and we had a few drives there."

On whether he likes using the headset:
"Yes, I like it better than the signaling and we'll continue to do that. I try to practice it every day so that I can get familiarized with it. I think it's a lot better system. There's still not enough time between plays, though."

On whether he saw Jansen's injury happen:
"I did not. We'll have to look at it on the film."

On coaching in the Hall of Fame Game:
"It was special. This is a special place. Being here, getting inducted with all my family and friends-it was special for us."

On whether the performance of the third-stringers mean anything in a preseason game:
"It means a lot. Our guys worked extremely hard in the offseason and we only had nine days of practice. But we planned it that way and I felt that we went out there and played extremely hard. What you kind of admire is that we had to overcome some adversity in the first half. The defense kept us in it and the offense came alive with some plays late in the game.

It will be something to see what QB get's what Gibbs is trying to do! Four more games and little less then five weeks to the opener. To this point Brunell looks old, Ramsey looks like a deer caught in the headlights and Hasselbeck a little better. In todays NFL you need to hit the short passes and run the ball. Right now with the Oline running is not going well so we need to get Thomas back and get Jansen's replacment going for the opener. As for the passing game open thing you didn't see last night was the TE. That and the crossing patterns along with the outs are needed. But we all know that Gibbs run O's need to run first! A lot can happen in five weeks! So in todays NFL you loss Jansen's and we will find out if those two Tackles taken in last years draft were worth it!

Matty,

Did you see the live interview with Gibbs after the game? It was GREAT. He chuckled and looked like he was about to come out of his skin when she asked about Sean Talyor. He does not usually show that much enthusiasm for anyone - especially this early.

Yeah, he just kinda chuckled and said "Yeah Sean Taylor was good", he seemed to be at a loss for words he was so happy.
