he will end up hiring himself... j/k but it,s getting to that point aint it.

Yes you did. That is how the giants knew how much to offer Spags.

Retread = Championship
Fire up Redskin 1, we have a championship HC waiting for us!

And wasn't Mariucci a "retread" when he signed with the Lions after the 49ers?

Re: Spagnuolo stays with Giants!

Thanks Snyder for dragging a once proud orginization through the mud only to have the original guy you wanted be the guy we settle for. Snyder really makes this whole franchise look bad. I just want the team to win and we need a new coach now because this has been drawn out enough

I would have liked to seen a young candidate come in that could stay for 10 years not this jumping through hoops every 4 years, it really gets old.

Hail to the Redskins and may we get a coach who will lead us to the next level

Sorry I'm just not a big fan of conspiracy theories.
This is what the AP is saying:

A person familiar with the selection process, speaking to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity, said the New York Giants defensive coordinator and the Redskins agreed he is probably a year or two away from being prepared to become a head coach.

Spagnuolo also felt he could play an important role as the Giants try to repeat as Super Bowl champions, said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the Redskins preferred to keep the details of their search private.

With Spagnuolo off the list, Ron Meeks and Jim Fassel became the favorites to replace Joe Gibbs, who resigned Jan. 8. Steve Mariucci also remained in the running.

Spagnuolo left the Washington area Wednesday night after more than 16 hours of talks over two days at owner Dan Snyder's house. He became a hot coaching commodity during the Giants' championship run, which culminated with their 17-14 Super Bowl upset of the New England Patriots, even though he had been a coordinator for only one season.
Wonder how true that statement is where they reported that "they agree that Spags is still a year or two away from being a head coach.

This much is true, he did not get offered the job. So was his new contract in NY more of a reward than that of a way of keeping him for next year?

Really, what a mess he's made of the organization. As J.LaC said in RI regarding the HC opening: "... Looks like a highly devalued position. Hard to spin it any other way."

Re: Spagnuolo stays with Giants!

Am I the only one who thinks that by being the last team to hire a HC, by dragging on this "process", and by hiring a new OC and DC first totally undermines whoever the head coach will be?

When Gibbs retired I thought to myself ok at least out of all the teams looking for a new HC we looked like the best, but now the Skins FO looks like it doesn't know what the heck it is doing. I never got too hyped about any one candidate because none of them look all that great to me. I just want some decision to be made. The NFL is a 52 week a year gig and bringing in a new HC must take a lot of work, if Snyder doesn't want to write off the season a decision has to be made in the next couple weeks.

Look for a decision in the next couple of days.

Well I didn't know that.

And I know what I said isn't likely, I just to throw around theories here and there.

Absolutely not! I've been saying and thinking that for weeks!! It's freakin' embarrasing how the 'Skins FO has made this team look foolish. No one worth a damn wants this HC job and who could blame them?

Re: Spagnuolo stays with Giants!

Ok so if DS has made his decision(as most of us think he has) what is the hold up now? Is Fassel trying to get a mint out of them? Are they holding back so it doesn't look like they would have gotten Spagnuolo if not for his new contract?

This just doesn't make sense as to why this process is dragging on forever. The other NFL teams found their HC in days not weeks. The only reason to wait thoughout the playoffs was if DS had his eye on a coach from a SB team. Was he just going though the motions?
