West-Coast Offense clarification.

Hey Guys,

I understand the basics of the west coast offense, but I have one big question. From what I've seen from the west coast teams they use a fullback. Is this a big staple in the west coast?

If so -- Lorenzo Neal is reportedly going to be released from the Chargers. Can't think of a better fullback than him. I like Sellers, but not sure how I like him in the fullback role.

Re: West-Coast Offense clarification.

I disagree purely on a blocking perspective. I love seeing him get some carries and a target in the passing game, but he leaves something to be desired in run blocking.

Re: West-Coast Offense clarification.

I think you only have to look as far as Tom Rathman, William Henderson, Mike Alstott, and Lorenzo Neal to see that a quality FB is crucial in the West Coast offense.

Whether Mike Sellars can step up his blocking game has yet to be seen, and while he does catch the ball well, what he does afterwards (leaving his feet) needs to be attended to.

Re: West-Coast Offense clarification.

I would welcome Lorenzo Neal in here for our new west coast offensive scheme.

Did you fall down the stairs as a child, then again right before posting this thread?

Sellers is one of the better FBs in the league.

Neal is a great FB, but while Sellers is here, there's no need to get an other FB.

Lets get serious. Sellers is good but with the exception of the hit he put on Kennoy Kennedy (which he got tackled by him anyways) he goes down to often for his size and he is a sub-par blocker.

Re: West-Coast Offense clarification.

While he's 38, he's still the best fullback in the league...4 time Pro Bowl, 3 time All Pro, all in the last 5 years. And while he may not have many years left, he's still a viable option at FB.

Seriously, I don't know what the rest of you guys are smoking but I want a hit. Also while we're at it why don't we talk about how Michael Vick was a pocket passer while Peyton Manning is the leagues best scrambling QB.

Is Chris Berman going to have to choke a bitch? JESUS!! I challenge anyone here to survive a hit from Mike Sellers. I suggest a lot of you go back and watch film on the guy and stop relying on Madden ratings to evaluate players, especially after the season.

Ok, I feel better now. I still love you guys, but damn.

Seeing that sellers hardly ever "hits" anyone. I am talking about his blocking ability it is sub-par at best.

Quake you make no sense. He's a very good run blocker, that's the best part of his game.

For some the image of Mike Sellers is synonymous with that of a madman, one who jaw-jacks to players of opposing teams after crushing them under blocks. To others the image is that of a cagey veteran who can sell a block and then slide out for a touchdown catch in the flat. Still to others, he is a terrorizing runner with the ball, one who can knock them on their rump and keep going.

Alright now that we've put the Sellers talk to rest we can get back to talking about the WCO.

Re: West-Coast Offense clarification.

It all depends on the system. Nobody really knows at this point what Zorn will bring to the table in terms of schemes.

Regarding Sellers I think he's a quality FB. I don't see a huge need to replace him.

I still think he is solid, no worries there.

But I feel this season is the one where we've got to find his successor. Maybe have someone share some time with him, or fill in for him when he's injured. I think late in the draft... just get a big coach-able body, tailor him to be ready in a year or two.
