Re: Jerome Mathis signed

Did it ever occur to anyone that maybe he was brought in to takeover on punts so Randle El can focus all his attention on offense.

I thought that might be a reason, but why would we give a guy 30 mil to just be on offense, wasn't one of the reasons we signed him, was to have a punt return specialist.

Re: Jerome Mathis signed

Randle El has turned into a pretty good reciever and he hasn't been very effective on punts but still this signing pisses me off. People are turning their back just because he has 4.10 40 speed. I thought the Redskins were better then this.

***Censored*****
Basically I thought Dan Snyder would have learned a thing or two from Gibbs about character.

From JLC:

The Redskins have ended their search for a PR rep and have decided to hire Shirely Phelps.

Re: Jerome Mathis signed

Unusual signing. Definitely unexpected, but I think if Mathis can stay healthy he is an upgrade over Rock. Rock is a good KR, but he doesn't have break away speed and that is where I think Mathis trumps Rock. It will be interesting to see how this turns out.

First post; Careful on the charges. Though all of us hate violence toward weaker individuals, as a defense attorney my knowledge of these cases are they are usually overblown. As one 60 year old female attorney said to me. "If this law was applied as is to everyone, both me and my husband would both be in prison." I can go into a dissertation on the problems of false data on these reports, but will not bore you. If the money is as reported it seems like his role will be more than just a returner. Hey, and still a great draft in front of us.

Re: Jerome Mathis signed

I guess ignorance is bliss. Oh well, here are the facts on Jerome Mathis.

Texans Returner Jerome Mathis Charged With Choking Pregnant Girlfriend - FanHouse - AOL Sports Blog
Quote:
"Mathis has already been in the Texans doghouse for maturity issues. After a breakout season where he was All Pro as a returner, he injured his hands riding a motorcycle. In his rookie season, he got into a fistfight with TE Marcellus Rivers on the team bus. After 2005, he spent the most of the next two season on IR with various leg problems."
The Facts
Quote:
When officers arrived at the home late Friday, they saw a red mark on Smith’s neck just below her jawbone, Foreman said.

Smith reported no other injuries but was “worrying about her unborn baby,” Foreman said. She refused to be taken to a hospital and declined to press charges.
So allegations of his domestic dispute aside, the fact that he got into a fist fight with his own teamate should've been enough to discourage the Redskin's from signing this guy. God, how many times do I have to bring up Jeremy Stevens?

In all honesty, the number of fans looking the other way, just because he was a pro-bowl kick returner worries me.

ProFootballTalk.com - REDSKINS GO TURD COLLECTING

According to PFT I was on the right track with the release of the Mathis signing being on FRI night so as to have it go unnoticed.

I don't think it matters that much anyway because he will more than likely not make it past training camp due to his injury riddled past.

What happens though if he gets injured? Doesn't the league prevent teams from releasing injured players, (for example Shaun Alexander).
