mr smootsmack im glad you enjoy my comedic skills but i agree with you. as for mr riggo, what free agent DE do you think will be available next year that you suggest we target? its not like the top pass rushing DE are just being let go by their current teams. if u notice the vikings payed a steep price to get jared allen because top notch DE's are very hard to come by. maybe will smith? charles grant? but its no guarantee the saints will trade or not resign either of them. and honestly for the next 2 years i would take taylor over both of them. id love to get suggs from bmore though, but seriously doubt their front office guys are gonna let him go, as Ozzie and the boys are very bright bunch of guys up there. plus why is it a given that springs and jansen must go? i would still like to see them move springs to safety to finish career where i believe he could still be highly effective. as for jansen if he does go, dont we have heyer to take his place? as for griffin, daniels and washington i would suggest we use all of our draft picks next year on the defense except for a posssible early pick on an o-lineman. we are not gonna draft a QB, RB, WR, or TE in next years draft or pick up someone at those spots thru free agency. so we can still sign a F/A or two to fill a few spots then use our drafts picks to address any other areas such as DE, LB, and CB. i need to call danny, vinny and morocco qwik for a job...geez..lmao

I think you are right on the money with your thinking!!! Jayson Taylor will still be playing at a high level...higher than anyone we have or can get in the next 2 to 3 years. The other great thing is that he is a high caliber type of person...good in the community and off the field! Which helps you not worry about your investment in the guy. He could possible be a great mentor in the future to who ever we draft in the next couple of years or have a great rotation of pressure if free agent is the way to get our next DE. Example is the Giants...cant have too many DE's!

All this talk of 3 rd round picks starting is BS...I can only name a few who are on the Skins and do that. Yes the draft is the low risk way to win in the long term...but we are a contending playoff team now!

way to think bigskinny. the draft is kool and is the way to go. but for now i just think adding JT would be a no brainer. its not like we would be trading multiple picks or even a first or second rounder. i just think we are pretty darn close to a deep run in the playoffs but need one more playmaker on defense, esp. the D-line. and if it cost us a
3rd or 4th rounder to a possible super bowl run its more than worth the risk of a mid round draft pick! and if he is released bysome crazy chance... we BETTER hop all over him! shoot we traded for more for B Lloyd for goodness sake!

Don't be stunned if Dolphins ace defensive end Jason Taylor, on the outs with the new regime in Miami, winds up with the Redskins. Taylor will be 34 in September, but he had 11 sacks last season. His 46 sacks the past four years lead the league.


Taylor is still very much in shape as he showed on "Dancing With The Stars." He has played his entire 11-year career in Miami, but the Dolphins haven't made the playoffs since 2002 and Bill Parcells and Co. are clearly rebuilding a team that was the NFL's worst last season. The Redskins, while not a powerhouse by any means, did reach the playoffs two of the past three years.


What's more, Taylor's agent is Gary Wichard, who is very tight with Redskins front office boss Vinny Cerrato. A Redskins source said that acquiring Taylor to boost the laggard pass rush wasn't out of the question but that there have been no talks so far either internally or with the Dolphins.


Taylor has two years left on his contract, which is worth $16.5 million. Miami could absorb the cap hit incurred by trading Taylor and Redskins owner Dan Snyder's trademark has been to shower newly-acquired players with bonuses.

As those of you who check in regularly already know, the Redskins rejected the Dolphins quickly and decisively when Miami called shopping DE Jason Taylor before the draft. He's the kind of player defensive coordinator Greg Blache has avoided - an aging big-name who has one eye (if not both eyes) on Hollywood and his next incarnation as The Rock/Brian Bosworth in front of the cameras. Based on everything I have heard from both inside and outside the organization this is not in the cards.

Yes, the Skins have a need an end, but unless the Dolphins decide to give the guy away, then it's no. And, according to league sources, the Fins have already denied an overture for a fourth round pick for Taylor from one NFL team and may in fact holdout for at least a pick in the first three rounds. Again, the Skins are not and have not been players here, and at that price it's a no-go.

The Redskins have already passed on a bevy of linemen in free agency and on the trade market, and, again, there are reservations among many in the organization about how focused and dedicated Taylor is to football given his turn as a ballroom dancer and his obvious flirtation with the lure of La-La Land. Taylor's overt rejection of reporting for Miami's mini camp and training camp runs counter to everything Blache stands for.

Washington has preached building through the draft above all else - that offer of two first round picks for Chad Johnson not withstanding - and by dealing a pick in the first three rounds you are trading an asset that should translate into a longtime starter for the right to rent a player like Taylor for a year or two. The Redskins have had no recent discussions with the Dolphins since rejecting Miami's initial approach about Taylor, sources said, and he is not someone they are planning to pursue.

As one NFL executive put it:

"Blache is not a guy who is infatuated with stats and sacks. There's a lot of other things you need to be able to do to play for him, and at this stage of his career can Jason Taylor give you those things for 65-70 snaps a game for 16 games? No, he can't, and he's a guy making $8 million a year.

"That's a team that says now that they are building through the draft and you have to take them at their word there, and after over-spending for so long that now they may be taking a different approach. You can't just build a team one way; there has to be a balance between the pro side and the college side and you can't be balanced if you're always giving away first-day picks. In the first three rounds, you've got to think of those guys as starters. I can't see too many teams offering those picks for Taylor. If I'm the Redskins I'm not making a move for the guy.

Of the two I'd say JLC's article is more accurate, especially since he went as far as to show what Blache looks for in players (plus it's easier to do nothing instead of something). However I think he went a little over the top with the Jason Taylor/Brian Bosworth comparisons.

Above all I think J. Taylor still wants to play football, either that or he's so good he can sack QB's in his sleep. The Dancing With the Stars thing is probably the start of J. Taylor considering life without football which in my opinion is the smart thing to do considering how many players seem to lose their purpose in life once their careers over. However I doubt Taylor is loosing his desire to play the game, and if you watch the highlights of Jason dancning in that show, he's still in amazing shape.

So in conclusion I doubt the Redskins go after J. Taylor, especially considering his salary, but at the same time I dismiss the notion that Taylor has all of a sudden gone Hollywood.

I too have been scratching my head when ESPN reports that Taylor is actively looking to transfer to hollyood. For one thing, he won't make the kind of money (at least off the bat) in tinsel town that he can mashing QBs.

There is no way in the world we should pass on J.T. I don't care if he was Dancing with the Cars in the off-season(which is a great way to stay in shape), he produces, is a great teammate and a model citizen! Why do you think his teammates want him back? He would solidify our D and we would be able to bring C. Wilson along slowly! Also, does a first day pick guarantee a starter, better yet an All-Pro, Defensive Player of the Year? I didn't think so! To sum it up Snyder,Cerrato, Zorn, and Blache would be foolish to pass up the services of J.T.(me personally, i would give up no higher than a second!)

5 or 6 games into next season, when teams are putting up big numbers on smooty flakes and Springs eternal and Doughty is trying to fill that 21 foot crater in the deep secondary and we are the league lowest in sacks, Greg "Im so holier than thou" Blache will be wishing he had ammo like Jason Taylor. Cuz then he wouldn;t have to dial up Marcus Washington or the nickel corner on some exotic blitz, he could pressure with the front four.

Give me a break. Smell some coffee. YOU MUST RUSH THE PASSER TO WIN! Period! Anybody watch the supewrbowl? Anybody see the Pats hang 50 on us last year with everybody dropping back into soft zones? Get real.

You either do risky overload blitzes on one side of the o-line (Philly-Baltimore did this well) or you have beasts on the ends (Giants). There is nothing else.

Also since in 06 we traded a 3rd for TJ and a 2nd and 4th for B lloyd was a horrible deal.But now that we can give up a 3rd for a guy who is saying hes in great shape i'll belive it.He won the 2006 award for a reason and he put does numbers into use .Getting LLoyd and TJ for does picks was just awful but getting Jason Taylor who is a future hall of famer and is one of the most active DE today could be worth the 3rd rounder and could break out.

2. What's with all the spaces and gaps in your posts? Write legibly

4. You make some decent points but it's so poorly presented, it's doubtful anyone is going to bother to sort through it all

i just read on nfl network that the dolphins refuse to trade jason taylor for anything less than a 1st round pick, and if thats the case, he will either be a dolphin or probably retire, because i dont see an nfl team using a 1st round pick on a 34 year old DE, one of the most physical positions in the game
