| The official Jason Taylor discussion thread (mega-merge) ESPN - Reports: Dolphins seeking draft choices for Taylor - NFL If the Dolphins are willing to swap 2nd round picks would you give up #21 for Jason Taylor? I doubt they would be willing to give any additional concessions, but for the Redskins I wouldn't be all that opposed to this. I wouldn't just give up #21 for him though.

| re: The official Jason Taylor discussion thread (mega-merge) Acquiring Jason Taylor, as his contract is currently structured, is nearly impossible for us from a salary cap perspective. Taylor has two years and $17 million remaining on his deal, which means a cap hit of about $8-9 million per season. We currently have $7.0 million in cap space. That will climb to $9.5 million in June, but still, we wouldn't have the space to sign our rookies if we brought him in under his current contract. The only way a Taylor acquisition works from a cap perspective is if the guy signs a new deal. Which of course makes me nervous because he's 33 and a last-capped-year is bearing down on the league in a few years due to labor negotiations. I don't think it'd be a wise move for us, all things considered. Very good player, but the situation is tough.

| re: The official Jason Taylor discussion thread (mega-merge) Obviously JT is an amazing player. I'm just not too comfortable w/ his age at a demanding position. He's most likely got a couple good years left. But do we want to rent a player for 2 seasons. We need to get younger in ALOT of areas. Pass rushers included. |

Plus, if I am doing my math right (big if) then even the trade you suggest would be like giving up a 1st round pick for Taylor. By the chart it would cost the Dolphins 210 points to move from 32 to 21 (the equivalent of a mid-3rd) then they would also get our 2nd (worth 390) netting them 600 points (or the equivalent of the 31st pick) and all we get is Jason Taylor. I'd say he is worth more like a 3rd-4th rather than 1st ... and not from the Redskins.

| re: The official Jason Taylor discussion thread (mega-merge) What Schneed said. Right now Dallas, Cleveland, and Jacksonville are the leading suitors. I don't know what Dallas is offering. I don't know what Cleveland can offer (Brady Quinn?). Jacksonville is reportedly offering their 1st and 3rd for JT and the Dolphins' 2nd. Miami is countering with JT and a 4th for the Jags' 1st and 4th.

my feelings exactly. Didn't we learn from our mistakes. Why would you want to trade for a player on the downward side of his career. We are not going to realistically contend for a SB in the next 1 or 2 years. Its time to get younger at key positions. | |

| re: The official Jason Taylor discussion thread (mega-merge) If you read that thread with the press release in it, there's a specific quote from Snyder where he says something to the effect of, "You can't sign 33 yr old players to 5 yr deals." i would think this has little to no chance of happening for the Skins. Thank God.

| re: The official Jason Taylor discussion thread (mega-merge) If the player in question is a couple years over thirty I suggest all NFL teams look into the studies performed by the research team over at Redskins Park. The available data suggests that GM's around the league should be fired on the spot anytime they aquire aging players with massive contracts period and if they give up high picks in the process they should be hit repeatedly over the head with a five pound bag of nacho cheese. |

| re: The official Jason Taylor discussion thread (mega-merge) Any GM giving a 1st round pick for that 34 year old dancer should be fired on the spot! That pretty boy will be retired within 2 years…he thinks he is going to be an actor…he is not one of these guys playing until he’s 40 years old because he loves the game. I don't want him under any circumstances.
