Roger Goodell is cracking down on NFL hooligans

Probably most here have seen first hand games that got out of control in the stands at RFK or FedEx. Over what a game a few words, and YES probably to much alcohol and/or just a lack of brain cells, maybe all of the above.

Most folks do enjoy taking there kids to see Redskin football no matter what the age and some of the behavior at games over the years has just been insane and very family unfriendly. I remember many games over the years we have attended when the kids where young that where very close to lets get out of here.

I also remember our own Chief Zee being attacked at veterans stadium back in 83 when a bunch of retarded philly fans jumped him beat the shit out of him ripping off his costume and causing major injuries to include a broken leg and putting him in the hospital.

Sounds like a long shot and a lot of work lies ahead. But I applaud RG for taking this position, you have to start somewhere.

Ah yes, the patented "throw a team out of the league for a year because of their loser ass fans" idea. That would surely be the best option.

Now that my sarcasm is out of the way, I think this is a good thing for Goodell to be doing. Several stadiums have unruly, overly drunk fans and if the NFL wants to continue to project the "family experience" they need to start punishing fans that want to act this way at stadiums.

Re: Roger Goodell is cracking down on NFL hooligans

Considering we live in a country where 95% of the people who drink don't know how to hold their liquor, I'd say it's an excellent idea. Some of the stories I've heard of people at ball games makes me glad I stay at home.

However my only experience with a drunk fan came in 2003 when the Falcons faced the Redskins in Atlanta. Now when something exciting happened everyone would stand up, but there was this one guy that looked like Jared from Subway who was standing the entire time, and he was obstructing the view for a quite a few fans. Eventually someone told him to sit down but he looked at us and said something like "No, come on guys stand up." Eventually an usher got him to sit down but it was pretty annoying for the quarter worth of gametime he was doing it.

But yeah from what I've seen on TV and YouTube something needs to be done about the alcohol at professional sporting events.

I'm torn on this -- if it's just a drunken problem -- then fine. However, what's next? People can't stand up because some kid wants to see? When I go to a game, I stand up and cheer for my team on defense. It's how I enjoy the game. I sit down for offense. Also, I love hearing the trash talk at NFL games, and that often includes language that parents get protective about.

If you're going to do this -- make the owners assign a special section of the stadium (can't be club) to child friendly seating. Impose your rules there, but all over the stadium will ruin the live experience more than it already has been. I hate that we're holding a team responsible for fan actions -- hold individual fans responsible.

I like it.

The NFL should have been doing something about this long ago.

I am sad to read that in the USA, you also have some troubles with hooligans in the stadiums. Right here in Europe, we have very serious troubles with groups of hooligans (violence, racism...). Last year in France, a supporter of the soccer team of Paris Saint Germain has even been killed! That's crazy... I mean... it is only a sport... I hope that football in the USA won't be like soccer in Europe.

BIG problem in the NFL. To many drunken F.....idiots, that cannot handle alcohol. I do not care if they wreck "their".....multi $$$$$ experience. I do care if they wreck mine....GREAT MOVE. AND...........obviously, it would already be fixed if it were not for the obscene proceeds being generated by the sale of beer at the stadium.
Once again, it is not a question of morality, only the loot to be lost by the team. They have allowed to get in the shape it is in, they need to clean up their mess

I actually wont go to anymore Eagles games because I hate their fans so much I get into fights every game. Lets face it though, nothings going to change. Good for Roger though to make it seem like he cares.

I like what Goddell is doing but he's going a bit too far with this fan conduct policy. How can you hold the team accountable if their fans are assholes? Hold the person or persons accountable, not the team. Plus he's going to fine teams that sign bad character guys if they happen to get in trouble? C'mon.

You will get a much better reaction from the stadium security if teams are held accountable. If someone gets caught fighting they are held accountable, but if you also hold the team accountable also you will probably see more security effort at the stadium.

The main difference though is that the hooligans here are random fans, not organized groups. It's not nearly as bad here as it is in Europe and in the context of this story hooligans isn't exactly the best word to describe the fans being profiled in this story. Maybe drunk idiots would be a more accurate description, but far from the groups of hooligans over in Europe.
