Don't discount the value of later round picks, although semi-rare some tend to pan out nicely. That is why so many teams trade out of the early rounds to acquire more picks in the second day rounds. Diamond in the rough and not paying rounds 1 to 3 contract is worth that risk.

| re: Redskins trade for Jason Taylor (updated) You have got to love the quickness by the front office to fill in the gap. Great job

My point is this: people (and some football execs) overvalue 5th-7th round picks, but they seem to undervalue undrafted free agency as a means for roster filling. Because the bottom of the draft is screwed up, it makes sense to trade those picks for veteran talent, and be very agressive in signing undrafted free agents. Many UDFAs don't get a fair shot because the team "invested" in a late rounder. If, instead, they kept the spots on their roster open, and signed a bunch of quality talent while only keeping the best, they'd be more efficient in team building.

| re: Redskins trade for Jason Taylor (updated) You have to wonder how we did this so quickly. I mean we must have been in the talks for a couple weeks because it doesn't make sense that we could do this so quickly when teams have been trying to move Taylor for months. Also when we didn't give the dolphins more than they were being offered before. Again, good job front office

| re: Redskins trade for Jason Taylor (updated) I am ok with the 2nd. It's not like we traded for a chump. Is he a downside guy? Yes but we didn't trade a 1st (our m.o. usually) and we got a high charcter guy who will bring something to the table almost guaranteed. If we get one good year it was an ok deal if we get two then it was a good deal. If he gets hurt and sucks then that's life. If he just plain blows then we're cursed and it doesn't matter anyways to me.

| re: Redskins trade for Jason Taylor (updated) I really like this move but do have a couple of concerns. I was reading an article earlier today on the Redskins official site that said that Zorn's practices were going to be more up tempo and have more contact, especially in the trenches. I just hope that these 2 very early injuries are just a fluke and there are not more to come. I don't know much about NFL practices but maybe it is better to ease into full pads with contact. On the other hand, I have always liked coaches who work the players hard. I also worry about stopping the run. How nice would it be to still have Wynn right now? All in all, I think this is going to make our entire D a LOT better.

| re: Redskins trade for Jason Taylor (updated) I’m actually anxious to hear more players opinions on the tempo of practice, it sounds pretty rough out there. I hope that it does not have a negative effect on team morale, especially if there are more injuries early in camp. |

| re: Redskins trade for Jason Taylor (updated) I'm still not a fan of this deal, but I spin it this way: at least we didn't give up a mid round pick to go after a guy who really wouldn't help us in the short term and has no development potential.
