My overall take-Week 2

Just in general, in order for the Redskins to play to their potential, I see these things need to happen:

1. LaVar needs to become a disruptive force. He disappears WAY too much for the impact player he's supposed to be. We need to hear his name at least 5-6 times a game for making a positive play.

2. Derrick Dockery and Lennie Friedman/Cory Raymer need to step it up. Too many times the pressure is coming from their area. Strahan was a non factor, but the Giants blew up the middle of the line. Portis is able to get to the edges and off tackle, but when he tries to run up the middle or to the left side he gets pushed back. One play yesterday, the pulling guard couldn't get around to block because Friedman AND Dockery were pushed back into the backfield.. The center position is a disaster thusfar. We can attribute at least 7 pts and 3 fumbles to the center-qb exchange. The schemes are solid, it's time to man-up.

3. Walt Harris needs to earn his keep. As the 3rd corner he is supposed to be able to come in and cover someone, I keep seeing him flail about too much.. At least Bauman made plays, maybe it's time for Ade Jimoh to get a shot..

4. Rod Gardner needs to become a professional reciever. The highlight catches are great, but you need to make the catch when you are standing still and you know you are going to get hit. The first down drop was unacceptable, as was the dropped TD. Again, if he can't do it, let's get McCants and/or Taylor in there. On a related note, why is Thrash in the game if he doesn't get any looks? Is he not open or just a decoy?

5. If Ramsey didn't throw those 3 interceptions I think that he would have become the starter because he moved the ball better than Brunell had in a game and a half. He's just better right now but makes stupid decisions (forcing the ball downfield, delay of game penalties from changing the play too much, holding the ball too long, sloppy ball handling) that need to be corrected. In the short run and long run, I think the offense would be better in his hands. If Brunell is out for a couple of weeks, hopefully Ramsey can come in and show he's capable of being the man.

6. Finally, as has been a problem seemingly forever, we need to see a consistent effort.. Other than the first drive, they came out flat as tap water. The effort just didn't seem like it was there at times.

Overall I am happy with the team despite yesterday's outcome. The defense is playing very well. Special teams are average, but they haven't really killed us yet. Portis is what we expected him to be. They dominated the Bucs and outplayed the Giants when they weren't giving the game away. In a division where the Cowboys don't look like worldbeaters and the Eagles still have holes we can compete, but people need to step up in order for them to do so.

Paintrain:

Agree that Arrington needs to do a lot more on the field and less talking off the field.

The BEST defensive player so far has been Marcus Washington - and it's not even close when you try to name the second best.

Giants got no sacks against Philly in week 1 and McNabb was only hurried 4 times in the game. In week 2, they poured through the middle of the OL like grass through a goose. If anyone here even begins to compare the centers and guards on this team with Jeff Bostic, Russ Grimm and Mark May, they should have their access to the board denied.

Walt Harris was injured in training camp. He may be a little behind in his preparation. He is adequate as a 3rd CB.

I have said since his rookie year that Rod Gardner is leading a charmed life here in Washington where for some reason he has not gotten cut from the team. That is the kind of receiver that you expect to see on a sorry-assed team like the Cardinals. He is nonchalant; he does not block particularly well for a guy his size; he commits penalties at bad moments. What he has is physique which makes folks think he has POTENTIAL. And POTENTIAL is a polite way to say he hasn't achieved a damned thing yet.

Ramsey still looks confused/bewildered out there. I really thought he'd be much further along than he is by now. He made two blockheaded throws that resulted in deep interceptions yesterday.

Brightest lights on offense yesterday were Cooley (TE) and Brown (OT).

1. I agree. He has to be more of a playmaker. Marcus Washington is doing his part as is Pierce

2. It's really embarassing how Friendman keeps botching snaps.

3. I think for the most part I've been pretty happy with what I've seen from Harris. Some people had concerns about our starting corners but Springs and Smoot have done a really good job. Particularly Springs, who many thought was a wasted move

4. Absolutely right Pain. That's dead on

5. In the long run it might be better in Ramsey's hands. But I'm not sure you can say he's the better choice if he keeps making stupid decisions. Saying "if he didn't throw those 3 interceptions" is somewhat similar to saying "if Portis didn't have that 64-yd TD run last week" Isn't it? I think the offense moves best when Portis has the ball, whether it's Brunell or Ramsey lining up behind center. Take that first drive for example

6. And speaking of that first drive, that was textbook. A very solid drive. I don't know why we abandoned it

Overall, I agree with you Paintrain. It's still early. Our defense is strong, our special teams seems to be improving. We just have to stay focused...and not flip out when we lose

Arrington did have 7 tackles yesterday and the defense was playing lights out for the most part, so I really don't see the need to call out the D or anybody like Arrington, they did their jobs. The offense on the other hand...

No complaints w/ our wk2 defense. I do blame Ramsey for atleast 2 of those 3 int's! Crazy that we even had a shot w/ 7 turnovers and only lost by 6 pts! Ramsey will start against Dallas and he wont' make as many mistakes. I'll guarantee it!
