Well if there are two things that Adam Schefter knows it's 1. Anything about the Denver Broncos past present and future and 2. Everything about the future of the NFL. If Schefter said it, it must be true.

Re: Schefter calls Skins job "desirable"

I would still side more along the lines of undesirable because of the 2 guys calling the shots. Vinny needs to go first, period. Guys see whats going on here and must be thinking hell no im not putting up with that. Look at the moves, hiring a consultant without the coach approval, Vinny pulling out the Zorn's contract to Zorn pointing at it saying you agreed to let us do whatever we want and we have final say, the threats on his job since last year...guys who have established careers dont want to put up that....Snyder needs a culture shift starting at the top in order to get these guys interested.

I think there are other owners who may open up their checkbooks as well that aren't being mentioned as much

There is nothing desirable about working for an overbearing asshole boss.

We're not the only ones looking for a coach, it's not like they have to coach here or stay out of football, these guys will have other offers.

call me optimistic but I think this is the year VC finally gets the boot, with some luck we can get Holmgren or, please god, Dungy and turn the Redskins back into a perennial playoff team.

Mike Shanahan would do wonders for this team! This guy is a winner and not just because of Elway. I would also take Gruden because he is so disciplined.

Both of these coaches are worthless if they do not have personnel choices. It will be the same thing that is going on now. Shannahan will only come in if he is the GM and Gruden will need to be able to sign as many quarterbacks as needed. Tebow will be a Redskins if Gruden comes to town.

Agree. I would tend to agree with Don Banks of SI more than I would Schefter in this case:

"Other than financially, has anyone been better off after going to work for Daniel Snyder and the Redskins than they were before they got to Washington? Seriously. Has anyone come out looking better for the experience, enhancing their reputation or résumé? Be it a coach, a player, or a front office member? Anyone? Ever?"

I could give a crap who the next head coach is if the front office structure stays like it is currently. It won't matter. Big name, little name, desirable or undesirable, we'll continue to flounder.

The no salary cap thing is way overblown IMO. Do the biggest spending teams in baseball always have the most success? Exactly. I think an uncapped year will be good for us because we can dump all the excess cap crap we've got going on (*cough* Portis *cough*), not because it will open the door for more spending.

Actually, I think an uncapped year would serve to further enable the type of behavior we've seen from Snyder over the past decade. And that IMO makes the uncapped prospect a con, not a pro, for any prospective HC.

I would like to see Gruden. When's the last time we had a hard nosed coach? What's the guys name that took over the 49's? If he's not available, we could bring in Terry Tate, and put him in charge of the FO.

I would take Cowher, the rest can go hang out in the press box. To Gruden and Shanahan i say no. I say no to the WCO, get that crap outta here. Smash mouth baby, all day everyday. Defense!!!

I saw Kelli Johnson talk about JG coming here after Sunday's game and she said the reason he had problems in TB was because he didnt have a QB. She said he has mentioned that he doesnt want to go to any team that doesnt have a bonafide quality QB. That pretty much rules out the Skins.

IMO, the ony thing that makes working for the Skins desirable is the ability to get a fat paycheck.

Re: Schefter calls Skins job "desirable"

I can agree with it. We have a top defense. We have a proud history and multiple Lombardis.

If an incoming coach can work out a deal with Snyder that clearly outlines responsibilities and gives the coach some control...or allows them to work with a new, competent GM...there's the chance to build another Redskins dynasty. Only a big name coach like Shannahan, Cowher or Holmgren could achieve this kind of deal, but they've already earned it with their past success. I believe Snyder really wants a winner and would not interfere with a top-name coach. When Vinny is fired, we're already on the right track.

I have heard Cowher wants to go to a Pittsburgh-like situation...well...that's us. Solid defense. The Steelers offense was weak when he started there...they had Greg Lloyd, Rod Woodson, Carnell Lake and others on D...led by Neil O'Donnell and Bubby Brister at QB and a Barry Foster/Merril Hoge backfield. They were not a great offense for a few years until Bettis arrived in '96, but he managed to win thanks to the defense.

It looks bad now, but this is a franchise that could rise back to power very quickly.
