Shanahan has always had a great running team but I wouldn't call it hard nosed smash mouth football. It's more of a finess style of offense.

I tend to think Shanny's running scheme fits the WCO offense better, though this is just speculation. For as long as I can remember our running game worked best when we had real bruising insiders i.e. when Dock and Thomas were in their prime at each G spot. Meanwhile our WR corp wasn't dominant enough to keep the defense from just throwing 8 guys in the box most plays. Shanny's run scheme always seemed to thrive of misdirection so throwing 8 guys in the box doesn't have the same potency. Meanwhile his scheme has always made the WR corp better which takes pressure off the run game.

With Shanahan, assuming he's here to win not just collect one final payday, I think our offense is just a couple good lineman away from consistent production. I hope we maintain a strong defensive unit to compliment it.

I LIKE IT because Vinny is gone. Also I think Dan Snyder has heard the voice of the fan and is responding. Naming Bruce Allen as general manager is a step in the right direction. I still want to see what decisions he makes about the coaching staff and player signings/acquisitions. Hopefully he will use the draft more than in the past and stay away from overpriced free agents.

I just heard a caller on NFL radio ask Gil Brandt about Bruce Allen and he had this to say (I'm paraphrasing):

-Very bright guy, level headed

-He confirmed that he's heard Bruce has total control over hiring a coach, personnel, the draft, etc. Snyder is out of the way.

-He sent a note to Allen upon hearing about him getting the job and told him now the other 3 teams in the divison have something to worry about.

So thats three seperate sources who've now confirmed that Snyder has stepped back. However, I don't beleive (and would hope) that Allen will not have total control over personnel and the draft. He has a horrible record in that department. Additionally, we all know Snyder wants Shanahan hired and thats who Allen is going to hire, unless something crazy happens. And we also all known that Shanahan is going to have final say over personnel and the draft.

When all the dust settles, i'm pretty sure things will look this way (as they should):

Dan Snyder, Owner - signs the checks. He may be involved in the sense of wanting to be kept in the loop of whats going on, but he won't be making any of the decisions.

Bruce Allen, Vice President and GM - handles the administrative side of football operations. He'll be involved in selecting players, making trades, etc., but he truly won't have final say.

Mike Shanahan - President and Coach - coaches the team, reviews potential FA moves suggested by Bruce Allen and his staff, but he'll make the final decision on what players are acquired and cut.

As an example, lets say Mike Shanahan wants Matt Leinhart as his QB. Mike would express this to Bruce. Bruce would call Arizona and negotiate terms of the trade. Snyder would pay Leinhart. Now, certainly all three men would be involved throughout each step of the process, but thats how I think it would play out.

i still have can't get past snyder saying we and then changing it to bruce and then changing it to redskins at the press conference only time will tell, you would think after ten years he would learn his lesson

If Shanahan is indeed the coach then I think it's quite obvious he will have a significant say in those areas. However the key to all of this is Snyder is out of the picture and Bruce is truly the captain of the ship. I think we should all be breathing a sigh of relief there.

Absolutely... although i would say Shanahan would be the "captain" if he has the team president title and final say over personnel. Allen would be his first mate/commander. Shanahan makes all the decisions at a high level and Allen validates (or challenges) those decisions and then ensures they are executed.

Absolutely! Snyder appears to have learned meddling lessons. Now if he can just learn patience, he could be one heck of an owner.
