Absolutely.

One another point, for those saying we saw this with Marty in 2001 and this will be 2001 all over again. This is not the same situation. Marty was running everything-the scouting process, the draft process (not just draft day but all the weeks and months leading up to it-choosing who to interview at the combines, who to bring in for pro day, etc), managing the cap. Marty, as is his preference, ran everything and didn't have much of a front office. Just him and the scouts. Allen will take the lead in a lot of those areas which should provide for a more efficient organization. And allow Shanahan to focus primarily on coaching, even with final say on personnel decisions

Yeah no doubt.

It's almost as if Danny has thrown his hands up in the air and said ok you win, I'm giving up the power, let's try something different. I mean he fired Vinny for crying out loud, the significance of that alone seems to have been lost on folks a bit.

Re: Shanahan presser thread

I like this next step for the organization. It seems as though Shanny kept working although he was collecting his 7 mil from the broncos for not coaching. He has had an office set up in Denver from day one after being fired from the broncos. Mike was watching game film for 5 to 6 hours a day trying to find new wrinkles to run in his offenses. All of this comes from a great article on Shanny in the Washington Post.

I really think that this cold be a team that goes from worst to a factor right away. We have alot of talent and have had no leader. Well we fixed that finally. We have a guy who is a modern football genius and has a work ethis similair to gibbs 1.0. This is going to be a fun offseason, and a productive 2010 regular season. I am not putting a win loss record prediction up, but we have a guy in charge who can get things done.

Is there anyone out there who knows MS's record against the NFC?

Neither. I think they'll pretty much split playing time, Cooley will get a lot of looks. But I think Cooley has lost his starting role.

EDIT: Technically, yes, Cooley will be benched in my opinion.

Right now, I am all for uncontrolled optimism...Shanny said all the right things, DS is making an effort to act a certain way, in terms of talent, this defense is pretty solid and we have a few, emphasis on a few, solid pieces on the offense and with Shanny's help I see no reason why we can't turn this thing around.

I really see this hire much more as DS having evolved and not making some dramatic change this season like most fans see it. Dan Snyder started out very hands on, but he has relinquished the reigns to Marty for a little, and then to JG for longer. He knows, trusts and respects both BA and MS, and I think BA gives him the link to the glory days that he really wants, so he doesn't have to pose with the 3 trophies, or keep older coaches. The trust, respect, and link allow him to sit back more, and let this franchise soar.

It is easy to look solely at results and be pessimistic about this change, but I think if you look at the path of Snyder's ownership you see a trend toward the result we all want. I think it's like a sine wave in that you have the up curves of Marty-JG-MS and the valleys of SSpurrier-JZ but those fluctuations have really allowed DS to find his way to being a top flight owner.
Now if MS fails and we go 4-12 the next 2 seasons, we will have a stark raving lunatic as an owner frothing at the mouth kinda like Al Davis...

Very choreographed if you ask me. I had a chance to watch it last night and as much as I hate to agree with Sally Jenkins on anything, i think she nailed it on this issue:

washingtonpost.com

Quote:
In the front row sat owner Daniel Snyder, in an obvious attempt to be discrete, if there is such a thing as obvious discretion. That Allen was the guy who introduced Shanahan and not Snyder was an unmistakable gesture, a kind of pantomime. It suggested that Snyder is at least cognizant of the perception that he has been interfering.

But it doesn't matter where Snyder sits, or how little he says in public. What matters is what he does through private channels. What matters is that those channels exist at all. Changing the Redskins' culture won't be a matter of externals, but of internals. It will have to happen below the surface, on unseen levels, in a thousand small, invisible and subterranean ways.
Anyway, i'll keep the rest of my "tempered enthusiasm" in the appropriate thread.

The most noteable thing i noticed in the presser was the fact that shanahan said he would be interviewing current staff members who would like to stay. part of me would like shanahan to completely clean house so this team could truly be his, but its very smart on his part to interview the people already in house. If he truly wants to assemble "the best staff possible," then there's no reason to exclude the coaches here. I wonder, perhaps the reason bugel hasn't "retired" yet is because he may stay on as our OL coach. Anyone else think thats a possibility? if so, how would you feel about it?

On the one hand, I like Bugel and think he's one of the best position coaches of all time. On the other, like I said earlier, i'd like Shanahan to clean house and start with a clean slate. Bugel, like those 3 superbowl trophies that were conspicuously absent yesterday, is a symbol of times past. its time to look forward.

Re: Shanahan presser thread

Buges doesn't fit with the zone blocking scheme Shanahan runs. I'm not sure what is delaying his retirement exactly, maybe he's just sticking around and wrapping up loose ends for now, but I don't see Buges coming back.

Re: Shanahan presser thread

I had heard on NFL Sirius radio that Bugel did retire. I have no link or anything but I have heard it was done. Tim and Pat were talking about it on Moving the Chains in thier opening yesterday on the radio show. As well as talking about Shanahan and BA.

Moving the chains is probably my favorite show on NFL radio. Kirwan is pretty sharp and has a lot of inside connections. Tim does a good job at breaking down the inside and outs of the game.

I agree, best show on NFL radio. I think I almost would rather wax my butt crack than listen to adam schiens voice, that dude is almost impossible to listen to.

Yeah he's such a freaking dork and his voice is extremely annoying. He over enunciates everything, I just find it hard to believe he talks like that all the time in his everyday life.

Totally agree. I love moving the chains... Great Show T-Rock and Pat are probably one of my favorite radio combos ever. Those guys are extremely informative and none bias. Now Schien is one of the guys I listen to because I disagree with so much he talks about and throughly cannot stand his voice. That dude straight up gets on my nerves. AND HE HATES THE REDSKINS. "Thats all I have to really say about that.." good to work in a Forest Gump quote every once in awhile!
