Re: McNabb a REDSKIN!

Really, is Tripp accusing others of faith when he's the one trusting ambiguous evidence and the interpretation of said evidence. He keeps on appealing to "normal stats" like yds, completion percentage, even though it is easy to establish as FACT that "normal stats" have ambiguities that simply cannot be assumed away; silliness like sack frequency UNAMBIGUOUSLY tells someone whether or not a QB has slow feet, even though guys like Steve Young had their fair share of 30+ sack seasons; the only sure thing the sack stat tells me is that the QB went to the ground with the ball in his hand X number of times. Basically, stats are an inference device that do not tell the whole picture, and he loves using this incomplete picture to propagate his snobbery-derived views.

Delhomme is closer to McNabb though than McNabb is close to the Brees/Rivers/Brady/Manning/Manning category. Those guys play 16 games pretty much every season. McNabb hardly ever does. In that way, he's similar to Delhomme in terms of age decline.

But I'm not expecting a McNabb meltdown this year. Just pointing out: it's coming sooner rather than later.

Time will tell. I think he's got 4 good years left.

McNabb has played 5 of 11 full seasons, in 2004 he was held out of the last game. In 2007 & 2009 he played 14 games, returning from minor injuries in each season. In 2005 & 2006 he had season ending injures. "hardly ever does" does not compute.

Not to put the tombstone on Shanahan before anything happens, but I think Reid has a much longer leash in the wake of this trade than anyone thinks. Neither coach has a job on the line this year. But Reid will win again in the NFL, and Shanahan's got a big rebuilding project on his hands.

I agree with this. Favre and Warner were two of the best in the game last year and they were much older than McNabb.

You know who else thinks he has at least 4 years left? The Mastermind.

Injured enough to miss two games per year on average (or 2.3 or whatever it is since 2005) is an unmistakable indicator of physical decline. Quarterbacks who have a lot left in the tank physically are the quarterbacks like Manning who play every game. Not the Hasselbecks or Bulgers who missed games well before they were ineffective.

I would hesitate to call anyone who thinks McNabb has four years left a mastermind. Delusional comes to mind. Though you were quite unclear in who you were referring to.

You don't think the heat will be cranked up on Reid if Kolb falters and McNabb takes the Skins to the playoffs? Reid and McNabb were tied at the hip. The only thing left to change if they don't get the results they expect is Reid.

Seems that the Eagles are rebuilding a bit themselves.

And the primary area that needs to be rebuilt JUST HAPPENS to fall under his expertise: offense. I trust Shanahan because he has a consistent track record of fielding excellent offenses, not because "ZOMG HE'S MY LORD AND SAVIOR". The empirical data is there; there is no blind faith needed.

Cooley on Sirius NFL right now.

"Cool for me, tough for my friend JC"
"I am excited"
"DM is a definite winner"
"Hasn't talked to JC, but JC is at lunch with Mike Shanahan right now"

What about Elway when Shanny got there? I think Elway was 35-ish...2 superbowl victories...McNabb is not Elway (top 5 QB of all time), but Shanny was able to motivate and was able to get it done before with an older QB, there is some stock to take in that.

Just one of a hundred reasons why it's insane that we ended up pulling the trigger. Had to outbid luminary organizations like Buffalo and Oakland.

Where were the winning organizations on this unbelievable opportunity? Do winning organizations not require a veteran quarterback?

Winning organizations already have a quarterback.

Elway also posted consecutive 20+ TD seasons when Mike joined the organization and his TD-to-INT ratio become closer to 2 to 1. Elway had never did that before then.
