| Re: Clinton Portis Interview -- Part 1 Well the Betts fans will argue that he always had that.. and I guess that he did, seeing as he was able to pull himself out for awhile. I think someone will take off and run with it since it seems like Portis is already penciling himself in as the number 1 back. If I had to take a guess I'd say that he'll be right and Shanahan believes so as well, but with the whole "You'll get to compete for the starting job" line that got tossed around when we signed the other backs it may not sit well with some. |

HAHA. ![]() He was surprisingly friendly about Zorn and Campbell...he's not the locker room "cancer" people try to accuse him of being. I think he'll have a great year in a reduced role, which is necessary right now for extending his career and maximizing his remaining abilities. John Riggins said much more inflammatory things than CP. Lavar Arrington caused much more distraction than him. Portis is a hard worker despite his past of sitting out practices and preseason. He shows up on Sunday and sacrifices his body for the team. With a little attitude adjustment that Shanahan has brought to him in how Portis views preparation for the season...he'll be a surprise this season.

| Re: Clinton Portis Interview -- Part 1 We are going to be a very good football team and I'm excited. I think Portis is going to have a monster season again and prove a lot of people wrong also. That quote above about D Mac is what stood out to me also. That is just what we needed. |

| Re: Clinton Portis Interview -- Part 1 I checked game logs for his "27-3" statement when he gets 25 touches...I counted 19-6 when CP carried 25+ times, but that's still impressive, especially considering our mediocre team records in the past few years.

| Re: Clinton Portis Interview -- Part 1 i know. ive been one of CP's bigger critics on here but man, i cant help but have this feeling in my gut that a healthy CP this year, with 15-20 carries a game, can easily top 1200 yds. of course, nowadays cracking 1000 yds is nothing but i could see portis having a renaissance of a season. (albeit i give him 1 year of looking like a young CP with burst) i guess im starting to get that offseason butterfly feeling again where the past doesnt look as bleak and the future holds nothing but promise. i think i picked CP as the player that will most benefit from the coaching change.

well guess what? cp starts the season not in game shape, doesnt know the assignments or block audibles and the o line isnt used to cp running the ball b/c betts is running it in practice. then when zorn goes with betts, cp pops off at the mouth. wheeew my love fest for CP didnt stick around too long.

| Re: Clinton Portis Interview -- Part 1 Yep. I've never doubted his talent. He's just been given too much leeway to do what he wants to do in the past. I expect Shanahan to change that.....or send him on his way. I believe practice under Shanahan is mandatory.
