Why No D-Lineman at #5

I just want someone to tell me why we should not draft a stud d- lineman with our #5 pick.

Because Taylor and Winslow are a far better value at #5.

Because #5 is too high for this year's crop of DL's. Only Udeze and Harris are estimated to be valued at a 6-10 pick and a few others - Wilfork, Starks, Smith - in the latter half of the first round.

Bottom Line: It's just not worth it value-wise. If we trade down a bit, then it would make sense.

Other than Udeze and Wilfork - I don't see any DL in the draft that is going to be a "difference maker" sure-bet. I'm definitely not sold on Harris...

Harris has a very bad habit of dissapearing in big games not involving the Texas Longhorns.

The linemen coming out this year simply aren't that good. Let's get a solid building block then think about D line. I think we can make up for our lack of line with a strong secondary and LB crew.

There is no stud d-lineman in this years draft. There are a few good d-lineman that will be drafted after the 8th-10th pick. There is no elite (1-6 pick) D-lineman that is worthy of getting drafted with anything less than the 10th pick, forget about the #5 pick.
Here is Mel Kipers top 25 list. His order is by talent and not by need of the team drafting in that slot, so the order will definitely change, because teams are influenced by need and talent:

1. Larry Fitzgerald So. WR Pitt.
2. Mike Williams So. WR USC
3. Sean Taylor Jr. S Miami
4. Eli Manning Sr. QB Mississippi
5. Ben Roethlisberger Jr. QB Mia.-Oh.
6. Robert Gallery Sr. OT Iowa
7. Kellen Winslow Jr. TE Miami
8. Roy Williams Sr. WR Texas
9. Philip Rivers Sr. QB NC State
10. Kenechi Udeze Jr. DE USC
11. Tommie Harris Jr. DT Oklahoma
12. Will Smith Sr. DE Ohio St.
13. Vince Wilfork Jr. DL Miami
14. Steven Jackson Jr. RB Ore. St.
15. Chris Gamble Jr. CB Ohio St.
16. Dunta Robinson Sr. CB S. Car.
17. Shawn Andrews Jr. OT Arkansas
18. Ben Troupe Sr. TE Florida
19. Michael Clayton Jr. WR LSU
20. Reggie Williams Jr. WR Wash.
21. Will Poole Sr. CB USC
22. Jonathan Vilma Sr. LB Miami
23. Daryl Smith Sr. LB Ga. Tech
24. DeAngelo Hall Jr. CB Va. Tech
25. Jake Grove Sr. C Va. Tech
