| Passing The Time During A Work-Stoppage This is a long article that deals with what the author, Ben McGrath, calls the "concussion crisis" in the NFL. This is not a sound bite; you will not finish reading it in 3 minutes. I think the title of the article is a bit of a hyperbole, but this is a serious look at a problem that is a real one and not a concocted one. This article is very well written and it is from a top-shelf publication. Football and the Concussion Crisis : The New Yorker

| Re: Passing The Time During A Work-Stoppage Silly me, I thought this was a thread about how we all might pass the time if a work stoppage happens and there's no football (including most off-season moves)

| Re: Passing The Time During A Work-Stoppage Well, if I had their money and there was work stoppage I'd be on a beach in Maui.

| Re: Passing The Time During A Work-Stoppage Seriously, I listened to a former player on NPR a few weeks back who is heading up a non-profit that researches head trauma cases of ex players. To hear him speak, it sounds like the more that is known about the dangers of football, the less likely the sport can continue as is. He mentioned guys like Andre Waters, who he thinks was depressed from the symptoms of several concussions, and then killed himself. And that was before this latest tragedy w/DAve Duerson. |

I definitely see the NFL putting more emphasis on tackling techniques such as wrapping the player up instead of putting a hit on the guy.
