Love Darrell Green, anything less is blasphemy.

I do agree with your first point though. You'd think fans would be able to correctly spell the name of one of the most recognizable HOFers in Redskins history, and yet apparently that's not the case.
right, i imagine the famous athlete would want to do more than talk about himself, but i imagine the fan may have different wants

I love my Redskins.....but D.G. is a D-bag away from the cameras. My old roomate saw him a while back at a sporting event....cant remember which one.......while wearing Greens jersey....asked for an autograph and was greeted with a rude comment and a turned back.

Why? Because he does a charity and gives and raises money for said charity? Dan Snyder gives money to charity and we know what kind of douche bag he is. I have heard nothing but bad things about DG from the people that have met him in public. Not a single story that didn't end up with him being a douche in some form or fashion.

Also, apparently you missed the Smootsmack DG stories, but I enjoy when he gives stories about how some Redskins acted during their careers. I especially liked his gem about Albert Connell...lol

Sucks to hear. I hate it when I hear stuff like this from fans that have envisioned this icon growing up as this super awesome guy, who played his heart out and gave back to the community, only to meet him and find out he's a huge douche bag and his entire career was for his self glory. It has to be heart breaking almost.

I've heard nothing but bad things about Darrell Green in terms of his dealings with the fans. Its never fun to hear that your childhood favorites (or just generally favorite, if you're not as young as me) are a-holes to their fans.

But speaking of childhood, does anyone know if Green was any better with his younger fans or is it just the adults he treats like garbage?

Re: 2012 NFL Free Agency Tracker (Book 3)

Back in the early 90s when I was around 11-12, my cousin & I recognized him at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg.

We went to say,"hi" & he completely ignored us. His wife came over to us and kind of guided us away from him.

She talked to us about him being with his family and that they didn't want to draw any attention to him.

We asked if she could just get him to sign our maps... she went over and came back with autographs.

Could have been A LOT more friendly but I could understand on that day why they would not want to be constantly hounded for pics & autographs... but... he the way he ignored us always has stuck in my memory.

that's a bit surprising, a thought he was supposed to be pretty nice/friendly and all that.

What Smoot is trying to say is that if he could be stuck on a island with 3 people, it would be Darrell Green, Albert Connell, and Kurt Busch. :cheeky-sm

I think the problem is people take a blanket statement and will run with it for years. They fail to look at the circumstances at the time the player played and the why's and what for's.

Remember folks back in the 80's and some of the 90's the players did not get very much money and did not get very much for their jersey sales. The way they made extra money was to do show up at events, commercials, and signing autographs. When DG was first brought on board I think he was decent and was signing everything and shortly after something happened. I've heard a rumor that he found out people were asking him to sign items then they would sell them to the public for $$$ which he was not reaping any benifits from. Because of this he stopped signing autographs and would only do it for kids.

The other thing is why sign a ton of autographs and at your next signing session no one shows up? Thats when he was supposed to be making money.

Then there is his foundation. All he asked was when doing interviews if he could announce his foundation on the air to make people aware. I think it got to a point some news feeds said no and he wouldn't do interviews with them. I think he felt if he was doing them a favor with the interview they could do him a favor and allow him to announce his foundation. Seems fair to me.

The thing to keep in mind with him is he's passionate about his foundation, he was a loyal Redskin, he didn't cause any problems in the locker room, he did his job, he didn't hold out, he didn't commit any crimes, he didn't change teams mulitple times, he didn't do pushups in his driveway and he didn't cry on tv taling about his QB.

Totally understand you position but I think you have already recognized his... not wanting to be hounded every where he went. The only other way around that would be to either rent the park out so no one else was there and your kids not get the park experience or go way out of town maybe to Dallas country and go to the park. lol.
