Apparently Barnes made the comment earlier that the DB pecking order came down to who plays special teams which may indicate they are looking to keep an extra DB who plays ST so they can keep Briscoe who doesn't.

If Briscoe's a lock (which I think is a good thing), that seems to me to round out the WR position:
Garcon
Moss
Hankerson
Morgan
Briscoe

Leaving one spot for Robinson, Austin, Banks and Anderson to fight over. Gotta think they are leaning to Robinson.

That is, of course, unless the Pats cut Gaffney, in which case we sign him and ....
championship!!!

I just hope it's not Banks.

I think it's Robinson. Gotta say, if he does make the roster that will be a great turnaround from last season, where I was unimpressed by him in the preseason. All he did was muff two punts and not do anything as a wideout. Still, I haven't seen him fill in as a returner this preseason though, so we'll see if they think he's a suitable replacement for Banks. I love the playmaking potential Banks brings to the team as a returner, but he's too small to make it as a wideout in the NFL.

Re: 2012 53 man Roster predictions

Regardless, as a group, I am very happy with the improvement from last year. To me, in his limited appearances, Garcon has been all that was expected. In addition, he seems to have formed a connection with Griff which has the potential to be very good for both of them.

[For those concerned about Garcon's speed - he seems to play fast enough. He got behind the defense at least once and maybe twice in the Colt's game. Remember, Jerry Rice wasn't a big "measurables" guy, certainly no burner, and he seemed to do okay. On the other hand, D. Stallworth, who was all about speed, never amounted to much.]

I like the group (with Robinson in the 6th slot) a lot. I believe it will be a huge, huge improvement over last year's group.

Morris is young snd healthy and ready to run. He must be filled with desire being as though he was passed over so many times and comes from a small school. I say give him the rock.

Agreed. My depth chart would be Morris, Hightower, Royster (assuming Helu goes to IR)

According to TK, Robinson is a lock. Then again, they were wrong about J. Brown being cut...lol

Yup. Hightower has almost two more weeks to get strong.

Re: 2012 53 man Roster predictions

Here's WaPo's predictions with Banks beating out Austin, Armstrong and Robinson:

Let’s take a crack at the final 53 Redskins - The Insider - The Washington Post

Quote:
Quarterback (3) -- Robert Griffin III, Rex Grossman, Kirk Cousins. I know Mike Shanahan has gone with just two quarterbacks in the past, and itís an easy place to get back a roster spot when you donít want to make a tough decision at another spot, but Rex is too valuable to let walk. You might not want to ride with him for a full season, but he knows the system and can win you a few games in a pinch.

Running back (4) -- Tim Hightower, Evan Royster, Roy Helu Jr., Alfred Morris. The problem with Morrisís big game against the Colts is that heís no longer far enough under the radar to hope to sneak through to the practice squad. He might even be competing for carries in Week 1 at this point. Seems unwise to go without a fullback in Darrel Young. The choice is between him and tight end Chris Cooley, who will take snaps at fullback.

Wide receiver (6) -- Pierre Garcon, Josh Morgan, Leonard Hankerson, Santana Moss, Dezmon Briscoe, Brandon Banks. Tough decisions have to be made here. Some people might prefer Aldrick Robinson over Banks, who is still basically a return specialist and nothing more. But Robinson is eligible for another year on the practice squad. Armstrong wasnít healthy enough and Austin didnít show enough this preseason.

Tight end (4) -- Fred Davis, Chris Cooley, Niles Paul, Logan Paulsen. Four tight ends is a lot, but on this roster, Cooley is the only fullback. I could see Cooley being traded, but not outright cut, even with his salary and even with the other talented tight ends on the roster. In the end, itís a choice between Cooley and Darrel Young, and I kept the more versatile player.

Offensive line (9) -- Trent Williams, Kory Lichtensteiger, Will Montgomery, Chris Chester, Tyler Polumbus, Maurice Hurt, Adam Gettis, Tom Compton, Willie Smith. Plenty of room to quibble here, as I let third-round pick Josh LeRebius go instead of the also-practice-squad-eligible tackles Smith and Compton. The Redskins might make a decision between those two instead, and in the end, may carry two or three O-linemen on the practice squad.

Defensive line (6) -- Adam Carriker, Kedrick Golston, Barry Cofield, Chris Baker, Stephen Bowen, Jarvis Jenkins. Chris Neildís ACL injury left just Cofield and Baker as the nose tackles, and leave the D-line as one of the areas with little suspense.

Outside linebacker (4) -- Ryan Kerrigan, Chris Wilson, Brian Orakpo, Rob Jackson. Markus White is my last roster cut here.

Inside linebacker (4) -- London Fletcher, Perry Riley, Lorenzo Alexander, Keenan Robinson. Bryan Kehl might make the team -- heís listed ahead of Robinson on the depth chart on the team website, for whatever thatís worth -- but the team invested a fourth-round pick in Robinson. Kehl had chances at interceptions in the first two preseason games, but couldnít come up with them.

Cornerback (5) -- DeAngelo Hall, Josh Wilson, Cedric Griffin, Brandyn Thompson, Richard Crawford. The Kevin Barnes trade signals that the Redskins like some of their younger corners. I wish I had some great insight on why they like Thompson and Crawford instead of Travon Bellamy and David Jones (who isnít all that young), but I based it on the two who good things seem to be written about most often. Open to hearing better reasons.

Safety (5) -- Brandon Meriweather, Madieu Williams, Tanard Jackson, DeJon Gomes, Reed Doughty. Since I kept Banks, I keep an extra safety to fill a role on coverage units.

Specialists (3) -- Graham Gano, Sav Rocca, Nick Sundberg.
Some bad picks here. Cooley in with D. Young out. Banks over Robinson. Gano still on there (they wrote it this morning but never updated).

Yeah, I was thinking earlier that this may have been better timed on Thursday morning cause it's already dated, lol. One interesting note I saw on Twitter, 10 of our 11 starters on offense plus all key ST personnel (LS, P, K) will be Shanahan acquisitions. Think he wants his own players in place? As a matter of fact, only 1 offensive backup (Moss) is a holdover to previous regimes. On defense it's not as dramatic (7 remaining players-starters and backups) but an overhaul nonetheless. I've got a post planned for Friday about the difference between the '09 roster, '10 roster and the '12 roster to discuss how far we've come from the days of 'Snyderatto'

So what's everyone's final 53? Who wants to go first now that we've finished the pre-season?

I'll defer to Smootsmack. He seems to have the inside scoop on all the cuts.
