| Pierce to Return - Based on Comments I believe based on his comments about the Coles situation that Pierce is on the cusp of resignning. "You don't want to have somebody that doesn't want to be there," said linebacker Antonio Pierce in a phone interview. "If he's unhappy, he's going to make other people unhappy. We don't need that kind of negativity. Sounds to me that he is headed back, did anybody else read this between the lines? Except maybe Offsis

| Re: Pierce to Return - Based on Comments I would file this in the to be expected coloum . He wont make a deal untill at least probably middle to end of next week where he will be able to get a better idea of his true value. I think the same can be said of Smoot, he has been quite warm to the Skins F.O. Does anyone know who Smoots agent is I knew he used to be a Potsons guy but if he is the same as Peirce then it is the agents wish to get his clients to FA before striking any deal . |

| Re: Pierce to Return - Based on Comments I mentioned this once in another thread. Why don't we put the transition tag on Pierce? We would not have to worry about him signing the one-year tender, as it would likely be in the ballpark of $5M, and he is probably looking for a long-term deal with a SB that is at least that big. The transition tag will not prevent other teams from offering Pierce a contract, since there is no compensation to be paid to the team that loses the player. Basically, putting the transition tag on him will allow the Skins to determine his market value, and then decide if he is worth that much to us. That's what Gibbs has been trying to do all offseason, right? |

| Re: Pierce to Return - Based on Comments Did anyone else notice how Gibbs called Smoot a "Redskin" and he and Danny had talked with him earlier in the week. What kind of clue was that? Maybe if we could ever get this Samuels thing taken care of and Coles out of Dodge we could figure out if Smoot and Pierce are staying. |

| Re: Pierce to Return - Based on Comments no point to putting the transition tag on him, we arent goign to pay him five million, its way way to high. you dont get compensation if someone takes a trasition tag player. I think Pierce just wants to get some offers becuase its hard to gauge his worth right now, and then he will just have ths skins match it.

| Re: Pierce to Return - Based on Comments What a player says to the media and what an agent says in negotiations are very different things. Pierce is trusting his agent on this, so if the agent says don't sign, he wont, or at least that's my guess. Check out his initial comments in that first phone interview where he says he trusts his agent, etc.
