| Alcohol and NFL players health For players, Friday is the most dangerous night in the NFL - NFL.com I was really shocked by this article, it seems it's a usual thing for nfl player to get drunk on friday nights... this mean 12 hours (at best) before gameday they still have alcohol in their blood, this affects your body, no wonder why there is so many injuries! I mean in rugby (where there is far less money than in football) players are basically forbidden to drink one single beer or eat ice cream for the whole season (which is from september to june), I really have a hard time believing that in a sport where everything is analysed, every stat, every angle of the game etc... nobody is telling the players not to drink! It takes time for your body, your muscles etc... to get fully recover from a hangover, even if you have the feeling you're fine the day after.

| Re: Alcohol and NFL players health I agree with you, but to counter the point you brought up. Clinton Portis did an interview a while back about a game in his rookie season ( I don't know if it was his birthday the night before or not ) in which he played hung over and ran for something like 200 yards and 2 or 3 TDs. This was while playing for Shanny in Denver. That is just one example of many of NFL players playing successfully hung over. Another that comes to mind was the white WR from one of the first few Super Bowls who played the game hungover because he didn't think he would play and was very successful as well. It is a problem though.

| Re: Alcohol and NFL players health It shouldn't be a big surprise that alcohol use by players is fairly wide spread. That's usually what happens when you get a bunch of guys together right? Add in guys with a lot of money and celebrity status, and it's party time. |

| Re: Alcohol and NFL players health Thing is, the more money they make the less they have to spend. Free drinks all night long. Just let me put your name on the flyer promoting my club on Friday nights and I'll hook you up with VIP-VIP status all night long.

| Re: Alcohol and NFL players health For anyone who hasn't read it, check out "The Dark Side of the Game" by Tim Green. Some of it might be a little dated now, but he gives a revealing behind the scenes look at the NFL. He touches on the subject of alcohol. Not sure if they still allow this but I remember him talking about guys pounding beers on the plane ride home after games. | Re: Alcohol and NFL players health Yup. I saw up close some players, well known players, drink ungodly amounts right before my eyes. The quieter ones were generally the ones who just sat alone and drank more. The "partiers" were the ones who would nurse their one or two drinks all night while being social
