"He passed all the tests and all the functional things we do"...

I basically stopped right there.

The rest is just Andrews not wanting his name tied to this if god forbid he got hurt again. Shanahan probably shouldn't have brought his name into it from the start by saying he cleared him, but what else was he gonna say, that RG3 said he was ok and wanted to go back in so we let him? That would have been a bigger mess.

Yeah its a non story to me. I wouldnt take him being concerned as a sign that rg3 is in bad shape. He is suppose to worry for the worst...thats his job. And rg3 probably shouldn't have come back in but that was weeks ago. He's almost 100 percent now and that's what matters

Re: RG3 cleared to play (update)

We see players all the time get hurt go to the sidelines for a play or two and go back out to play without a Dr's note. Not sure what they expect a coach to do in the last few minutes of a game your needing to win when your main player is standing there ready to go back into the game.

It wasn't a injury to the head or spine.

Move along....

We win today & the NFL decides we broke a rule & penalizes us in some dramatic way.

Re: RG3 cleared to play (update)

yeah, non story. we already know players hide injuries to stay in games all the time. this is just another example. no one forced him, and he was upset they sat him the next week... so, who cares?

I think the big deal is that shanahan said Andrew cleared RG3 to return which apparently wasn't true. Either way, I think you're right, I don't think it's a major issue.

Re: RG3 cleared to play (update)

When I first heard the story this morning, it seemed like a big deal. I guess, Shanny looks like a douche but whatever. Your team's on the clock and you have to make a decision before getting penalized. It was a tough call to make with limited time and basically zero medical opinion. Not to mention said injured player pressing you to go back in the game.

Re: RG3 cleared to play (update)

it's not a big deal at all.

we see it all the time, a guy gets hurt just enough to delay the game for a moment, he has to come out for the next play, and he goes right back in

Michael Irving on the NFL network set said it best. Shanahan probably told Griffin go see the doctor, Griffin wanting to get back in circled around and then said I'm good to go. No big deal on this, but of course the NFL may think it is.

You probably shouldn't have stopped reading. That part you quoted is in reference to him playing now, not the situation back in the Baltimore game.

Basically, Shanahan said Andrews told him he was cleared to go back into the game, and Andrews said that is not true and that RGIII never allowed them to examine him.

Shanahan needs to be fined big time for this if true, and the fact he threw his high profile team doctor under a bus is pathetic.

Dr. James Andrews says he never cleared Robert Griffin III to go back into game after injury

Quote:
Shanahan said he let Griffin return with the blessing of James Andrews, the renowned orthopedic surgeon, who was on the sideline.

Andrews, however, told USA TODAY Sports on Saturday that he never cleared Griffin to go back into the game, because he never even examined him.

"(Griffin) didn't even let us look at him," Andrews said. "He came off the field, walked through the sidelines, circled back through the players, and took off back to the field. It wasn't our opinion.

"We didn't even get to touch him or talk to him. Scared the hell out of me."

Yet when asked by reporters, Shanahan described a conversation with Andrews this way:

"He's on the sidelines with Dr. Andrews. He had a chance to look at him and he said he could go back in," Shanahan said Dec. 10. "(I said) 'Hey, Dr. Andrews, can Robert go back in?'

'Yeah, he can go back in.'

'Robert, go back in.'

"That was it," Shanahan said.

Only that's not the way it happened, Andrews said. What's more, Andrews remains worried about Griffin's health as the Redskins play the Seattle Seahawks in an NFC wild card game at FedEx Field today.
Quote:
"I'm the one that shut him down that day, finally," Andrews said. "I've been a nervous wreck letting him come back as quick as he has. He's doing a lot better this week, but he's still recovering and I'm holding my breath because of it.

"He passed all the tests and all the functional things we do, but it's been a trying moment for me, to be honest with you."

Basically Andrews is just worried about Griff and his knee, which is understanding. Now Mike and him saying he said is just dumb. If Griffin went back in without being looked at then that's on him. Hopefully he's OK and won't hurt himself more, luckily he's passed all the test so far
