Re: Redskins News & Notes Chapter 6

Helu had some kind of procedure done. Never heard of "dry-needling" before.

Acupuncture?

Roy Helu - Washington Redskins - 2013 Player Profile - Rotoworld.com

Helu Jr.’s Health Makes Football Fun Again

Quote:
Helu Jr. attributed his series of leg injuries in the NFL to tight muscles in his lower body.

Following a regimen known as dry needling, he was able to release some of the tension known as trigger points, which in turn relaxed and strengthened his muscles.

Ive seen great results from that, he said. I still have time to recover over these next few weeks. I still need more motion in the toe, but to be out there doing my job is fun.

During OTAs and minicamp, Helu Jr. practiced with teammates for the first time since September and said that he felt physically and psychologically refreshed.

I feel good. I feel Ive gotten to the point that I can compete at a high level, and Im thankful for that, he said. Im out there running a lot of plays without pain. I guess thats the best measurement.

He also credited faith and family for helping him find perspective during the rehab process.

Also, signs pointing to carrying just 2 QBs if we keep 4 TEs and the kickoff specialist John Potter.

2012 NFL Kickoff Statistics - The Football Database

Kai, although he played in 11 games, he had 62 kickoffs last year. 45 of those were returned for 1,048 yards. That ranks 14th in the NFL. This John Potter guy had 26 Kickoffs last year, 11 of those were returned for 263 yards. Thats an average of 23.9 yards/return. Kai's average is 23.3 yards per return. In terms of kickoffs being touchbacks. 42% of Potters kicks were returned. 72.5% of Forbaths kicks were returned.

Although I see the difference, I like having kicks returned, it gives our ST's more opportunities to get fumbles and holding calls, as well as getting the returner to run it out, something which doesn't happen as often since the kickoff line has moved.
I agree completely. Oddly enough, in years past it wouldnt have mattered since we didnt have enough talent to worry about it. But I would much rather that spot go to a player. We have enough younger players that that spot makes a difference and could lose a young player who goes on the PS over being on the team.

I have also read where Kai is working on his kickoffs. The article is a few months old by now, but it looked like he was getting at least a little more distance on his kickoffs. Kai said in the article that it is less about leg strength and more about making the right contact with the ball (Making it sound similar to golf. Ball contact makes all the difference in the world in golf)

Hey, if Kai continues to average 1 missed FG per year, don't make him change anything...get a KO specialist and let Kai score the points.

I agree with this. Don't mess up his stroke!

Looks like we've got another Josh Morgan on our hands.

Re: Redskins News & Notes Chapter 6

Kicking a FG and kicking a kickoff are quite different. Working on one shouldnt affect the other. A FG is a 2 or 3 step approach and kicking the ball off the ground while it is being held. A kickoff is a 5-10 yard approach and kicking the ball off of a tee.

Even if he cant reach the end zone, I would rather deal with kickoff returns than use 3 spots on the 53 man roster for kickers.

I would be stunned if John Potter made the team (unless Forbath gets hurt). I think Harry Potter, even Col. Potter (RIP), have as good a chance

Not sure if anyone saw this:

Redskins' Indian-Chief Defender: Not A Chief, Probably Not Indian

Pretty stupid move by the Redskins, IMO. Even if this guy is a real Native American, he voiced his support of the name and really should leave it at that. I really can't believe anyone in the PR department actually approved this.

Someone jumped the gun and didn't do their due diligence, it seems
