Riggins, Monk, Theismann, Green etc. don't play anymore. In time RG3 will be gone.

So what keeps you a fan, just being a local? What if they moved to another city and another team started up in DC? Who are you rooting for?

I think its going to be very critical what they change to.

Not that this would happen, but if they wen't from the Redskins to say the Kings or something and completely changed everything, I could see some people who don't live in the DMV area switching allegiances to maybe their local team or taking a step back from football all together. Not saying its right/wrong but I think that's very realistic.
BITD before Carolina, Tennessee, etc, the Skins were the only act around in the NE and East, North of FL. Many of those people remain fans today but the wholesale change will likely take care of all that.........

I think its very critical, if the name changes, how they go about doing it. I think it really needs to pay homage to the past (Hogs/Skins/Braves) and keep the same burgundy and gold theme...

I really think the name/identity means a lot more to people than you're really taking into consideration.

I'm sure there are a ton of fans who agree 100% with what you're saying too... maybe even a vast majority... but I think its very critical how they approach a change.
Absolutely, how this change is made is extremely critical. I dont have a problem with changing everything and making a fresh start but it has to be done the right way.

I'm a fan because of the REDSKINS COWBOYS Rivalry, my whole family growing up was dallas fans I hated them so I became a skins fan. If they change the name to Braves I'm ok if it's something different I'm out as a fan, I'll just watch football to watch instead of root for 1 team.

Yeah and I'd be pretty willing to bet if there are changes, they're not going to be extreme like he's suggesting.

Wiping the slate completely clean on a multi-million dollar business? Not smart.

That's a good question, what does team mean? I think local has a lot to do with it but I also think who you grow up rooting for is also a big part of it.

If the Skins moved away and a new team moved in I'd start following the new team but I'd still pay attention to what the old Skins are doing.

I think fantasy football has already done this for a lot of people.

I agree, it seems strange that all of a sudden these people have a problem with the name.

I think this is all part of DS and the NFL's plan for changing the name. DS can fight the good fight for the fans while the NFL plays the heavy.
