Grossman is the #3 and here to stay.

Stop the Pat White madness.

Just smh
It's hard to evaluate your receivers when you have a guy in there that is so limited in what he can run. That's why I can't see White playing with the 1's.

He is running a watered-down simplified version that requires minimal, MINIMAL, QB passing skills. That won't cut it come regular season. He'd get eaten alive. It's very simple. He has not shown he can run our offense. He has shown he can run AN offense (not ours) that works against 4th/5th stringers. That's it.
I want to know what Miami thinking drafting him in the 2nd round. Whoever was responsible for that should never ever work in an NFL front office again. The only pick that I can see that was worse was drafting Tebow in the 1st round. We all know how that turned out for Lil' Hoody.

That was back when the wildcat was still all the rage.

Parcells was the genius that drafted him.

we know what we got in grossman, a player who will move the ball between the 20's fairly well and then it's 50/50 in the red zone he throws an interception. I'm done with grossman, burnt out by his supposed brilliance that turns to bs at any moment. Rather he not face the field for this team ever again.

grossman's best in two games was also against 2nd and 3rd stringers, so ... Since we already know what we got in grossman lets start pw next week. Let him start and play against 1st stringers using players that are 1st stringers so all of us can have a fair judgement and see how well he really does.

obiously rg3 won't be playing. After last nights scare cousins should not be playing so we have a decent starter game one if need be. Give pw the 1st quarter and give grossman the 2nd. I still think pw is better based of mobility but if he throws another pick and the coach's know it was his fault then cut him and keep grossman. If grossman throws a pick and struggles but pw does not then that should shut up the nay sayers and grossman should be cut.

pw cannot pass!

Re: Steelers @ Redskins (Pre season game 2)

I really thought last night would put an end to the Pat White mania ... apparently not.

To be an adequate replacement for Sexy Rexy, he ought to be looking like RGIII v. the teams no-names. I mean spectacular/unstoppable - deep balls hitting WR's in stride, lasers thrown 20-30 yards downfield, checking through to his 3rd or 4th progression.

Instead, Let’s compare shall we?

R. GROSSMAN 10/16 133 8.3 1 1 0-0 83.6
P. WHITE 3/6 22 3.7 0 1 1-5 19.4

Of White’s six passes, the only two that traveled more than 10 yards in the air were incomplete and intercepted. Two of his completions came on roll-outs resulting in “short-left” completions. One other roll-out, “short-left” completion was dropped by Reed. [All of these are essentially one receiver routes]. His one completion from a drop back went for two yards to the short middle on a third and eight. While he made 26 yard on a straight QB boot and one read option run, both were on first down out of a passing set. White is absolutely no threat in the passing game None. Zilch. Zero. Nada. Pagh. The sum of all positive integers and all negative integers of an infinite number line centered on the 50 yard line.

So, at the end of the 3rd and through the 4th quarters, on five drives, and against guys who will be bagging groceries in a month, White through for an amazing 22 yards and an interception.

White’s Pass/Run Plays:
1st and 10 at WSH 20:
(Shotgun) P.White pass short left to N.Paul to WAS 27 for 7 yards (K.Wilson).

1st and 10 at WSH 14:
P.White pass short left to E.Kettani ran ob at WAS 27 for 13 yards.

1st and 10 at WSH 27:
P.White pass incomplete deep left to D.Briscoe.

3rd and 8 at WSH 29:
(Shotgun) P.White pass short middle to N.Williams to WAS 31 for 2 yards (S.Thomas, R.Ventrone).

1st and 20 at WSH 22:
P.White pass incomplete short left to J.Reed.

3rd and 14 at WSH 28:
(Shotgun) P.White sacked at WAS 23 for -5 yards (N.Williams).

1st and 10 at WSH 37:
(Shotgun) P.White right end pushed ob at 50 for 13 yards (S.Thomas).

1st and 10 at 50:
(Shotgun) P.White left end pushed ob at PIT 37 for 13 yards (T.Garvin).

2nd and 8 at WSH 44:
(Shotgun) P.White pass deep left intended for L.Lewis INTERCEPTED by D.Smith at PIT 38.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Washington Redskins - Play By Play - August 19, 2013 - ESPN

Bottom line, White is barely qualified to be a camp arm.

The only salient truth to your assertions is that White is faster and more mobile than Grossman. The underlying fallacy in your argument, however, is that our “scheme” is not a college based option run game supplemented by a short passing game (as White ran at WVU).

Rather, as many more knowledgeable than I have set forth ad nauseum, our “scheme” is Shanahan’s traditional play-action game reliant a strong zone run game with deep crossing routes in the passing game and that utilizes boots and roll-outs to supplement the play action with a deep sideline passing game. The pistol/read option is simply a wrinkle that further exploits the deep middle of the field in the passing game while simultaneously threatening the outside zone in the run game. Although White can threaten the outside zone as a runner, to be effective in Shanny's option scheme, White must simultaneously and consistently threaten the deep middle and deep sideline in the passing game. White is simply incapable of doing so.

White’s greater mobility (1) does not make up for his candy-ass arm and other shortcomings as a passer and (2) does not, in and of itself, make him a better “scheme-fit” for our offense. On the other hand, even lacking mobility, Rex is better able to exploit the deep middle opened up by play action and has enough functional mobility to execute the roll-out off the play action and complete the deep sideline patterns that PW simply cannot throw.

As for the rest of your arguments, yes … Sexy Rexy is a known and flawed entity. Regardless, Rex creates opportunities to win from any point on the field that White does not. It’s just that simple.

Smoot, you are always in the know, so here is my question on Colfeld's broken hand. I guess we are 3 weeks out from actually needing him, but how long will it take for his hand to actually heal. I know he can play with a "club cast" and all that, but he won't be 100%.

Could be up to 6 weeks from what I hear, but I really don't know

Re: Steelers @ Redskins (Pre season game 2)

Like hearing Kedric Golston is having a great camp and seeming to play that 3-4 DE position at a high level. Our front seven looks awesome for the most part, even without Rak. Like others have said this D will be nasty upfront and if the secondary can get up to speed quickly it'll be a top 10 defense all around.

Tyler "Turd" Ferguson still sucks. So bad. So bad.

Re: Steelers @ Redskins (Pre season game 2)

Tyler Polumbus is painful to watch play RT. The reason he still has a job, much less a starting one at a key position for a division winning team, is completely beyond me.

I feel we need a lot of help and great play from or RT and secondary to even compete.

I know they're considered completely different positions, but I think Compton looks better as a LT than Polumbus does at RT. Maybe we can move Compton to RT and see how he fares.

Re: Steelers @ Redskins (Pre season game 2)

I think the way our line is built all the players are interchangeable to a certain degree but we will get Rob hurt in a half of football if Polumbus and Co. at RT don't get it together.

Re: Steelers @ Redskins (Pre season game 2)

For people bitching about Polumbus, what are they expecting when he's left alone to block Lamar Woodley? He is what he is...I would fault Kyle for leaving him out there by himself. Pittsburgh is always going to have strong pass rushers on the edge. That's what they're known for. The rookie on the other side looked pretty good too.
