To be honest. Nothing to help Shanahan because the record is what it is. Although, Im not sure of any coach that would of been very successful in the past 3-4 years here.

Matty, you're missing it here. Pierre garçon (French) literally translates into Peter Boy. It's his name lol.

Very tough to see any quantifiable improvement. Still very little depth, pretty terrible drafting record overall. I would even say Mikes done a worse job managing the roster/team assets than he previous couple predecessors. So you're stuck with esoteric things like culture as improvements, but that's hard to buy into because team discipline sucks and preparedness sucks.

I have no doubt Mike and Kyle talk a good game with the insiders. But what specifically is improved with respect to the team?? Would Vinny not have been able to pull off the RG trade for example? And as part of the comparison we have to acknowledge the defense would be better with basically any other coaching/mgmt in place here...

This conversation, as most with you, will go in circles. So let's just move on

I would like to believe that something positive has come of his tenure here. Not sure how that will ever be evident. I mean if he leaves and than good things happen under the new regime, is it going to be easy to trace aspects of that success back to him?
Edit: yeah....moving on. Wrong thread anyway.....

You're hilarious.

No translation needed. His name is Garcon.

Idiots calling this guy part of the problem
This times 10. and imagine how good his season would be if the rest of the offense was clicking like that run last season.

Garcon is worth every penny. he's an example of a good move shanny made. the kind of comment like " well he better keep it up" is the kind of stupid petty comment I only hear in a toxic office politics environment. not the sort of comment I hear among good people.

Lots of good things about this current team. Collinsworth said it best. We are only a few vital pieces away and a healthy RG3. My opinion though. Wont force it down anyone's throat

Your statement would have been stronger if you had left Collingsworth out of it. Lol. I did like him on the old Inside the NFL show. I used to looooove that show.

I don't think Collinsworth is right, although a healthy, prepared RG3 is going to make a lot of things look a lot better.

The OL is years away, and they're going to have to develop a receiver who can make plays outside the numbers the way Reed makes plays inside them. Defensively, they are going to go with a new philosophy and that can turn a team around really fast. Hard to tell if it will, though.

The big issue though is no first round pick, so they'll be picking from a group of players who other teams passed on. You can find someone good in the second round, but they need someone who is a game changer to win next year, and that player just might not be available at the top of the second round.

Ok. You're right.

The thing is we agree the Shanahans should play important roles in the franchise. Mike would make a great RB coach, maybe OC if he learns to work with others. And Kyle would be a super cute ball boy.

Lol

Do you really think I root against the Redskins? Lol.
This team is still a mess and a joke. We would be in the running in a very strong way for the number one overall pick if we had one. Maybe people just cannot admit that Cerrato leaving did not make everything roses here. Dude sucked, but nothing has changed. Sad but true.
You're right in terms of record, but right now we have better components within the roster (RG3, T. Williams, Morris, Orakpo, Kerrigan, Amerson) to help us overcome this crappy season than anything we had under Zorn.

It sucks that we don't have a first rounder, but a much better cap space should help us get a decent supporting cast for next season. And I think this could happen whether we have the Shanahans back or not.

When Zorn and Vinny left, we were dead in the water and looking at a long rebuilding process. We may be dead in the water, but I think we could be back on our feet as early as next year.

I think we knew that some things were going to have to change organizationally after Vinny was replaced, but really, a lot of the front office structure remained sans Vinny. The last major FO shakeup that I can remember came in 2008 when the Redskins fired more than 20 employees after the economy crashed.

To me, the issue is absolutely the same now as it was in 2009: start making good decisions, even on a smaller scale, and it won't be so tough to maintain your gains. Just start getting things right on an everyday basis. The long rebuilding process you speak of would have been quite short if Shanahan rolled into town and started addressing the issues that team had from Day 1.

I don't see how the offensive line is "years away". Don't we lead the league in rushing since the beginning of last year? A lot of that has to do with RG3 last year, but the O Line definitely had something to do with Alfred Morris being as successful as he has been. The right side needs to be upgraded, no doubt, but to say years away is a big stretch in my opinion.

Additionally with respect to the draft, you find very few game changers after the top 8 or so in the draft - at least not in their rookie seasons. There is a difference between game changers and impact players, which I think is a more reasonable description of what you will find in the latter part of round 1 through round 3. I just don't think there is a lot of separation in talent there.

With free agency (that we will be able to participate in this year), the draft picks we have, and allowing this offense to have a complete offseason together, I am confident that this team will take a huge step forward next year.

LOL! That's not how it works Tripp. Just because a player isn't drafted in the first round doesn't mean he is passed up nor does it mean he can't be a game changer. By that logic, Joe Montana would not have been a game changer and most certainly Tom Brady would definitely not have been a game changer. While not having a first round pick sucks, it's not the end of the world. There is plenty of value in the lower rounds. In fact, that is where Bobby Beathard earned most of his paycheck was those mid to late round draft picks for the Redskins. The team can still bring in quality players in the second round and on, and they still have a chance of picking up a game changer. In fact, I tend to have more faith in 2nd rounders and on than I do first round picks.
