| Re: w/o of next year I definitely think Cooley can be an above average to great player. Not to be pessimistic, but in staying with a typical school of thought, we didn't expect a lot so anything that he could contribute was WELL above average. To his full credit though, he caught almost EVERYTHING that came his way. He wasn't afraid to take big hits and he runs fairly well after the catch.

| Re: w/o of next year Jacobs will get some freak injury during training camp like always does.....something like....he will rupture his spleen when dives for an overthrown ball and lands on someones foot. Or he will pull his hammy and miss two weeks of training camp. The guy does have talent. |

| Re: w/o of next year Matty/Malcom: Cooley can break out this year by actually getting into the end zone more frequently. That was the major failing of the team last season and someone has to get the job done. If you think he can't get a whole lot better than he was last year, then he was a waste of time as a draft pick because he was decidedly average for the league last year. Malcom: In two seasons, Jacobs has shown nothing productive as a WR. Ooooh, he's fast! So what. Cliff Russell was even faster and they cut his ass and no one missed him even a whit. Speed is one important part of being a WR but it ain't enough by itself. And so far, Jacobs has shown precious little else. If he caught 30 passes and 1 TD next year, that would be a breakout year for him. McCants will either get with the program that the staff is putting out or he will see the field once every three weeks again this year. Compared to last year, he'd have a break out year with 15 catches and 2 TDs. Do you folks realize that Gus Frerotte stands a real chance to be the starter in Miami? If he can start, maybe Heath-bar can make a comeback too? [Just kidding.] The breakout player of the year will have to be Patrick Ramsey because if he does not improve dramatically, the Skins will be lucky to break even this year AND will need to make some tough choices in the next offseason about what the team's future QB situation will be. Here is what Ramsey needs to accomplish: Twice as many TDs as INTs. QB Rating of at least 85 and preferably 90 Third down conversion rate of 43-45% Less than 35 sacks. Less than 8 fumbles.

2) Regarding Jacobs freak accident/injury during his rookie season, it caused him to only miss 1/4 of his rookie season. He was on the sideline and ready to play for most of the other games that year. IMO Jacob just did not show enough in practice to earn a starting position and displace another starting WR. 3) Correct me if I am wrong, are you saying Jacobs was/is Ramsey's favorite target? When last season did Jacobs become Ramsey's favorite target? I must have missed that memo. It seemed clear to me that L. Coles and Cooley were Ramsey's favorite targets last year. 4) Regarding who's job it is to get Jacobs more involved: A player has to earn his starting position. It is Jacobs #1 responsiblity to be in shape, stay healthy and EARN a starting job. I am not sure why you are blaming Gibbs? It was not Gibbs fault Jacobs missed almost all of 2004 preseason due to minor injuries. It was not Gibbs fault that Jacobs could not even crack the starting line up the year before under Spurrier. Spurrier ran the same system Jacobs played in college. Jacobs came in at a clear advantage in knowing the system better than any other WR on the roster. Still he could not earn a starting spot. I am not seeing that he is ready to explode. He plays well in non-contact practices. Big deal. So did Trung Canidate. | |
