Well Portis won't get 24, that's Springs' number now. I wonder if Walt Harris is making the same claims for his old #21

Iffy put up a lot of numbers, which is great for him, but bad for the Redskins. You dont want your safety to lead yoru team in tackles. Thats why they are called safetys. The fact he had so many tackles shows how bad our front 7 did last year. I hope he does continue to improve but I hope he doesnt have to make as many tackles. Roy Williams is known as being a hard hitter because he is in on plays that the front seven is making. The three picks of course were a great stat for him.

I guess his continued production will futher lean the skins pick towards getting Winslow now.

Why wouldn't we draft Taylor, trade/cut Bowen and move Ohalete over to the other side? It sure seems like Ohalete was the more productive player, although Bowen has the bigger reputation.

Why cut Bowen? I'm sure Williams will prefer depth where possible.

Right, I forgot to add /demote to 2nd string. Although I don't know if we wouldn't be wiser to see what we can get for Bowen. We seem to be getting ready to acquire some draft picks soon. (for trotter, possibly gardner)

Doubt we get much for Bowen. Better keeping as a backup - I seem to remember reading he doesn't have much of a cap impact so it should be OK.

There were a bunch of good safetys in free agency, and as far as I know we didnt speak with any of them. It seems like they are content with the two they have and are looking to get Winslow. They may have not talked with anyone and wanted to get Taylor, but after trading Johnson it looks more and more like TE is the way he want to go with the pick

Hail to the Redskins, you can't tell me you actually believe that damn ranking. 100+ tackles is good, 3 picks isn't too bad. But the fact is, you can't really judge a D-Back by stats because a good D-Back doesn't get tested. What would you say if I told you 71 tackles and 2 picks...where would that rank? Well, in reality, it's Champ Bailey's stat line. Who, oh by the way, just happens to be the best corner in all of the National Football League. What about 69 tackles and just 2 interceptions? Well, that would be Roy Williams stat line...the real best safety in the NFC. I can think of 10 safeties I'd rather than Iffy. He's the one that needs the attitude adjustment.

Clinton Portis is a Franchise Player. Clinton is far more important to a team than an adequate safety, but then again Iffy may not want to piss off his fans, I know the Ifeani Ohelete jerseys sell like hotcakes!

lol, yea ive got 10 Iffy jerseys that im saving in a box for my kids and grandkids...

I want Portis to get number 26 because im either buying a Portis, or whichever Cane we drafts jersey. And i would be pissed if i bought a Portis number 3 authentic jersey then he changed his number in a year after Iffy gets cut.

OK, 3 things...

1) Portis is only wore #3 for the mini-camp... NFL rules state that RB's can't have single digit numbers. Running Backs numbers have to be between #20-#49.

2) Like I said in my post... no, I don't think Ohelete is the best safety ever, BUT he is only 25 and can and will improve.

Someone can lecture me all day on how our D-Line and LB's played so badly that our safeties got too many tackles, which is OK. BUT 103 tackles is not a bad season I don't care WHO you are... anyone who thinks so needs to put their sorry judgemental behind in a uniform and play the position.

Also... 3 INT's for a saftey is not bad at all either. Roy Williams, "the best safety since Ronnie Lott" had only 2 INT's. Now you can't blame that on a bad D-Line can you?

and 3) It shows something about a person's value system when he, the fan, is upset with a guy who has 3 YEARS of tenure with this team because he won't give up HIS, I repeat, HIS number to the new "superstar" who hasn't earned a penny of his fat paycheck with this franchise yet. So much for loyalty and treating everyone on a team as equals... BUT I guess it makes sense... players today have lost most of their honor, why not the fans too.

There have been a few other expamples of my point before in this thread, but... I guarantee if you had a great parking spot close to your building at work, and some new guy came in and wanted YOUR space... you would laugh in his face. But when people you thought were your friends are now sucking up to the new guy because his in good with their boss and are pissed of at you because you won't give it to him... you'd be pretty pissed yourself.

I didnt know there were actual rules about what number you can wear, good to know, thanks.
The three pics was a great stat for him or any other player. The redskins expecially dont ever get a lot of pics, I hope that changes next year. In general the Redskins havent had a player put up big stats in a long time on defense. Lavars 11 sacks was great, but for someoen who said before the season that he would be MVP of the league would have put up more number.

Hey All...

Been lurking around here (posted once or twice) since there were less than 200 people on this board and it seems be growing faster all the time with some good information and insight, so I figure it's time to jump into the fray! Quick background..34, from Norfolk/Va Beach area, been a 'Skins fan since the Pardee days. Had posters of Joe Lavender and Kenny Houston on my wall as a kid. My Mom and grandfather grew up near DC and are die-hards... he since the days of #33. Old school!

Anyhow, as far as the jersey number range/position relationship is, here's what the NFL has mandated as the official system. Listed is the primary range and then a secondary range for some positions if a number in the primary range isn't available.

QB, P, K: 1-19
RB, DB: 20-49
LB: 50-59 (90-99)
C: 50-59 (60-79)
G, T: 60-79
WR: 80-89 (10-19)
TE: 80-89
DL: 60-79 (90-99)

Since it looks like Iffy just isn't coughing up his number, here's what is available right now (could change fast) for Portis... 27, 31, 35, 36, 37, and 39. Walt Harris and perhaps Taylor would also be picking from that group. Interestingly enough, as of right now, if Winslow is the pick, he'd have no number to pick from in the 80's. They're all gone.
