Daseal, you're struggling with the laws of probability. On which type of motor vehicle are you more likely to die or be seriously hurt:

A) Car
B) Motorcycle

The point is, why drive a motorcycle when you can just drive a car? They both get you places. He wanted to ride the motorbike because he thought it would be fun, and that's just plain stupid, because everybody knows it's not safe. This stuff doesn't "HAPPEN", it's the result of a risky decision. It's especially stupid when you have millions of dollars on the line.

Schneed - I said earlier something like 60% of people Winslow's age have an accident on a bike. Obviously a bike has a much higher danger rate. However, you can get hurt so many ways.

Dumb decision.

Over the last few years bikes have become another one of the must have toys for the rich boys, even the ones who know nothing about them. The model of bike he had was a pretty powerful sports bike, especially for a first time rider. My guess is he missed the brake, accelerated, hit the curb, and went a&$ over teakettle. Big guys like him are a lot less nimble on a small bike.

Exactly. So why do something to increase your chances at getting hurt?

Re: Kellen Winslow hurt again

Of course you can get hurt doing almost anything. You could trip on a flight of stairs, slam your hand in a car door, etc. But getting on a motorcycle is taking an unnecessary risk, especially when you're a professional athlete.

Re: Kellen Winslow hurt again

I personally never thought of being on a motorcycle as that risky. I think that its that type of people and what they do on them that makes it more dangerous. One of the reasons air travel is statisticly safer than cars or bikes is that most pilots are professionals who don't take chances. In short bikes don't kill people, stupid people on bikes kill people.

I think the key word here is stupid.

I agree that stupid people are more likely to crash a bike... but the physics and lack of protection make bikes inherently dangerous.

yep but what are you gonna do. lets just wait and see the extent of his injuries before we think his career is over. k2 just made a bad decision, everyone has made one at one point of their life.

Re: Kellen Winslow hurt again

In 1985 in Manchester, CT, I saw a horrible accident.
I watched a motorcycle speed up to make a changing light at a I-84 offramp.
The light changed to red and the oncoming traffic had already started.
He hit a IROC Camaro head on and was launched at least 100 ft before landing on his head and neck.
He wasn't wearling a helmet... not that it would have helped.
It was so terrible I couldn't go to work the next day.

If he was driving a car, it would have just been a bad accident.

EE: I know someone that saw something similar. Only a Van pulled out in front of a bike and the bike was going so fast he split right through the middle of the van, and came out the other side. Well.. Parts of him. They said they can never shake those images.

exactly, and that's why insurance companies only offer bare bones coverage for motorcycles.

Re: Kellen Winslow hurt again

For some reason this story interests me. Rumor around on the Brown's forum is its a cracked rib and colasped lung behind the chest pains he complained about. Plus he had knee and shoulder injury. Both his agent and team arn't saying anything right now. This guy acted really dumb, but it would be a shame to see a career to end over this. On this page is a video of him riding the bike and of the crash scene.

Some interesting stats...

Winslow - 13 games, 60 catches, 605 yards, 10.1 yard average, 1 TD
Cooley - 10 games, 62 catches, 732 yards, 11.8 yard average, 6 TDs

Just numbers of course.

Winslow definitly runs his mouth and acts like an idiot. But the guy dominated in college. Cooley wasnt making one handed catches in triple coverage to convert 4th and 26th... Hes a TE and was drafted 6th, and that says a lot. It really is a shame this happened becuase he could have been a great TE. Running your mouth doesnt make you a bad player, just an asshole. Its a shame when this happens to people, like Jason Williams for the Bulls. I would have rather had Winslow play and start this year, and then see if Cooley could put up better numbers. Becuase then we can say we got the stud safety, and just as productive of a TE in the 3rd round
