Your Defence is avg 10pt a game. That's pretty good. Why switch schemes now?

if he's not buying into the system, it doesn't matter how good he is... the defense as a whole will suffer if every player is not covering his zone.

Re: LaVar not happy

I remember playing LT you had to design your offense to stop him...and then u freed every one else up.... less recievers out more protection... Plus lavar is nasty ... every hit is a potential fumble or injury or big play... Bruce Smith at the end of his career after many years said some one hit him on the first day of camp and it was the hardest he had ever been hit.... When u have talent like that you find a way.... Juat ask Aikman..(not sure if thats how you spell his name but frankly i dont give a damn how its spelled....) lol

Re: LaVar not happy

I think we have to really take him coming back in stride. There is no way he won't crack the lineup in some capacity soon. Lavar will be playing in the next game if not starting.

Re: LaVar not happy

Someone here asked:

How do you have the potential best linbacker in football ...not playing..????

I believe the answer to that is in the question itself. It is the word "potential". LaVar has been in the NFL far too long to continue to get his playing time based on "potential". Rookies and second year players get playing time so that they can develop their potential. By this point in the careersa of men who were good enough to be thought of as the "best linebackers in football", they were not living on potential; they were demonstrating it on the field Sunday after Sunday and earning even the grudging respect of fans of their most bitter opponents.

LaVar Arrington is a gifted football player on a physical level. He better find a way to use those physical gifts sometime soon because Father Time does not let linebackers keep those "best linebacker in football physical skills" for all that long. The clock is ticking...

I don't know if Arrington's "issue" now is that the knee is not yet right or if he and the coaches are at odds with each other. This knee problem has gone on for about a year now; originally they thought it would be fine in about a month to six weeks. So, maybe there is some real problem going on in there.

Or it could be that LaVar is not taking to coaching as well as coaches would like him to. That has happened before.

So, you don't give the guy playing time based on his proven performance? I just find it hard to believe that a perrenial pro-bowler is having to justify playing time behind warrick holdman and chris clemons. This guy has done nothing but lead our Defense since we drafted him and become the face of the team. I like clemons as a third down pass rusher, but not as a blocker-shedding playmaker on the defense. I think the lack of big plays on defense is a pretty big concern with Williams and he'll give Arrington the shot to claim the spot as his soon. Probably after the bye. I hope they just don't want him to get hurt again, but they may be seeing where they'd be if they trade him to unlock some cap room, and keeping him healthy until around week 6. I'd hate to see him go, but it is a possibility.

Re: LaVar not happy

Can't we just give the man a chance to work his way back?

Seriously, we had about 5 or 6 'Where's LaVar' threads going earlier this week.

A little patience goes a long way.

Re: LaVar not happy

This won't be a popular opinion, but...
I really think trading him in the offseason for draft picks and cap room is a good idea. I don't know what the "dead money" situation would be but if it gives us cap relief and can generate a #1 and #2 or 3 draft pick, I'd pull the trigger.

Re: LaVar not happy

I like Lavar's physical skills as much as any Redskins fan, but he's not smart enough to excel in Gregg Williams' systems. He consistently makes mental errors, and I think that's why the coaches are reluctant to work him back into the mix. Besides, our D has been incredible without him.

under marvin lewis he had 10 sacks playing DE only on 3rd downs, so i don't think it'd be a problem, and he's already agreed that he's willing to do it.

or best DE last year got like 4 sacks playing everydown.

Re: LaVar not happy

Lavar will be back.
Noone should worry. He's coming off an injury that kept him out almost all of last season. The Redskins are winning without him right now so it's not that big of a deal. Arrington will be back in full swing by midseason and hopefully be healthy to take us into the playoffs. Yeah its the first post I've mentioned playoffs as a reality, but Arrington will be a big assett to this team this year! And you'll see it soon. Noone really knows if he's over having swelling in his knee. Why play him full tilt if he wasn't 100% in wk2 and we have a wk3 bye? You'll see more of him in the coming weeks. And I still believe he's got plenty in the tank. He wants to win and he wants to win as a Redskin. Good combo. Don't fret and please don't continue to freak out. Gibbs' and Tyer and the organization have been to the rodeo before.

Re: LaVar not happy

As much as I love LaVar and want to see him playing more, I am a Redskins fan first, and with our D allowing only 10pts. per game, plus being 2-0, I say work him in slowly. There is no rush. If he has such a problem with that, shut up and work harder to show the coaches you are ready.
That being said, I agree that the article kind of strings a lot of negative quotes together and leaves out more positive ones like how he just wants to win and was thrilled with the win in Dallas, even though he wished he could have been more of a part of it.

Re: LaVar not happy

A couple points to make:

The first skins defensive play this past monday night, Lavar was in there and came from accross the field to make the tackle on J. Jones for a gain of 3-4 yds. Great play. Check the tape, i'm 99% sure. Big time, play. I didn't even see him the rest of the game.

As for the injury, this is the NFL. He should get more than a couple plays a game, even if he's hurt.

As for his attitude, its obvious anyone who plays in the nfl should want to play and be upset if he's not. This guy has played hurt for us many, many times and probably not gotten the respect for it. He probably is a little sensative sometimes but this guy has a ton of heart and is a true redskin.

And...he probably should be explained how they want to "easy him in" or if they are just not going to play him b/c they feel he freelances too much. He is one of the most tenured skins on the team.
