AP: Williams' return to hands-on coaching has Redskins defense solid

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) -- Gregg Williams has tried to take a back seat to Joe Gibbs lately. It hasn't been easy.

Williams, the assistant coach in charge of the defense, was arguably the MVP of the Washington Redskins last year, assuming such an award can be given to someone other than a player, while the head coach was a shadow of his former Hall of Fame self. Williams' defense was the team's greatest asset, Gibbs' offense its biggest liability.
