Re: Redskins 2013 Salary Cap Status
According to profootballtalk.com, as of today there are five NFL teams with over $25M in cap space and many more with over $15M in cap space. To me, that represents a disgraceful choice of greater profits over competitiveness on the part of those teams.
This information reminds me that I'm still steamed that the Redskins and Cowboys were penalized cap space on the supposed basis that they were trying to get an unfair competitive advantage. Why aren't any teams ever penalized for not spending enough to be competitive?
I know we've talked about this a lot, yet we're still regularly reminded of what a farce this whole episode has become. What good has become of the players union caving in to the threat of a reduced salary cap and agreeing to penalize the Skins and the Cowboys? How ironic is it that two teams who would spend money on player salaries if they could can't spend as much while the notoriously cheap owners sit on the cap dollars that were taken from the Skins and Cowboys and distributed to them?
Nobody will ever convince me that DeMaurice Smith didn't anticipate that this very thing would happen when he agreed to go along with John Mara and his cronies on the penalties against the Skins and Cowboys. The players should wise up and drop Smith like a bad habit.
As for the NFL owners who pressed for these penalties, F-'em. The Skins will beat their teams despite the penalty. I can hardly believe what this episode has done to me: I now hate Mara and the Giants more than I hate Jerrah and the Cowboys.
End of rant.
