The difference between a cut and IR is salary cap. If you cut a guy, contract is ended, so if he had any prorated pay, that would be accelerated, but his base salary is gone. An IR guy's salary cap hit is the same as if he were on the active roster.

We don't have a lot of salary cap room so stashing guys isn't really an option for us I wouldn't think.

Carriker went on the PUP list

#Redskins moved DE Adam Carriker from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list to the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform list.

So his status will be determined after week 6, but he won't count against the 53 until then.
