Even though his money demands are the real reason most likely, the reason of not getting a job if he were openly gay would not be odd at all.
Besides the possibility of a few players not wanting a gay teammate, the real issue here is teams not wanting the crazy media circus that a gay NFL player would bring to town. Jason Collins is a scrub who can barely make an NBA team and averages more fouls per game than points per game and we had to hear about him every day for 3 months including the President calling him a "hero" for having sex with men. It has less to do with his lifestyle and more to do with the crapstorm of attention and distractions that would come with him.
I don't want that distraction. It will be worse than if we signed Tim Tebow.
The media ruins more careers than it helps and Rhodes is another victim. If the media's world wouldn't stop because of non-stories like a player's sexual orientation, their religious beliefs or their supermodel girlfriends...teams would not have to consider the rabid packs of drooling reporters when picking talent for their rosters.
I'd love to have Rhodes on this team as a player...but I don't want the gay media parade that will come with him if it's true. I don't care either way, just stop Dez Bryant and pick off Eli Manning a couple of times and you're good with me as a Redskin. Oh yeah, and don't do drugs, drive drunk and avoid raping and murdering people. Who you sleep with doesn't matter to me, but sadly, the media is obsessed with it.
