While I doubt Shanahan was the number one voice in the building in favor of the RG3 trade, he wanted a slow rebuild under Tannehill about as much as he wanted to jam an ice pick in his eye. He had to win in 2012 or not only would he have lost his job here, he wouldn't have found anyone else willing to offer.

Given that he sees himself as still employable in the NFL, I think he should be really thankful he got that trade done. Saved his career. Meanwhile, the jury is still out on the quality of the trade for the Redskins organization. Shanahan won it personally when he won the NFC East.
