If memory serves the ownership in Chicago was ultra cheap through most Lovie's tenure. I remember myriad sports observers say he didn't have a lot to work with. It makes sense looking at the minimal FA signings Chicago brought in over the years. Peppers and cutler notable exceptions, though cutler was mostly about draft picks. And I thought peppers was a risky signing.

Anyway, everyone says Lovie's guys play their hearts out for him. He's no-nonsense and wise enough to not be moved around by the media BS. Even if this isn't his dream job I think he would be perfect for it if that makes sense.
Even though I am not a big fan of bringing Lovie in, it is interesting to note that for all the praise Trestman has gotten, the Bears actually finished with a better record under Lovie Smith last year than they will finish this year.
