Stafford has thrown more than 40 td passes in the NFL in one season. He can play he just needs better coaching. He is not the best QB in the NFL but he can play.
Not sure about their cap situation though.

Redskins have less talent right now, but that's going to flip the other way in March when the Lions release useful pieces and the Redskins sign some.
Stafford has benefited from his defense, coaches, and offensive teammates. He's just a poor thrower of the football. Bottom line. He's not poorly coached. Linehan runs a qb friendly system, and they've given him proper development. That offensive line is very good at protecting a qb too.
