I don't think 5/$45 for Byrd is too much. I think it's right around what he's worth.
But if you sign him for that price...then what? Keep going until all the holes are filled and all the cap dollars are used, or still play it close to the vest after adding a talented player like Byrd who is already in his prime years?
You could go either way, I suppose, but there's a difference between signing Jairus Byrd just so you'll have Jairus Byrd and signing him in an effort to put a much better defense on the field.
Basically, do you grab Byrd, Spikes, and Linval Joseph (overpaying all three if necessary), or is Byrd the end game?
