I had a feeling he was going to be a pretty safe bet, barring injury, to make the team. Virtually every scouting report I read on him going in was he had very good hands and route running ability. Though scouts love imposing size and sub 4.4 speed, there will always be a place in this league for guys who can catch and run routes.

Ryan Grant 2014 NFL Draft Profile - ESPN
Quote:
Ball skills rank among elite in 2014 class. Excellent body control. Does a great job timing jumps and contorting body in air. Consistently makes tough catch on jump ball. Soft hands. Extends and snatches ball out of air. Consistently does a good job tracking deep ball. Will struggle to catch low ball on occasion.

Good initial acceleration off the line. Savvy route runner with quick feet and flexibility. Trusts his eyes and does a consistently good job of finding soft spots to settle. Sets up defenders effectively. Smooth transition but lacks acceleration out of breaks to consistently separate. Does not have speed to strike fear, so struggles to drive man-to-man defenders off the line. Lacks good strength and rerouted too easily.
