Re: Skins-Vikes Post game good & bad
No, I think Gruden's thing is to spread the blame to all. He defended Haz in the face of a pretty harsh question about firing Haz now. No head coach would throw his DC under the bus like that.
He did say that they still blitzed quite a bit, but that the LB blitzes didn't get home for some reason. Also, one problem was that they lost containment a number of times, something they didn't do against the cowboys. But he said they wanted to show some coverages to the rookie and see what he'd do--obviously, he did well.
One big thing I took from the presser was Gruden urging that we need to stay together as a team, and the what he's looking for is competitors who will continue to fight their way out of this. I think Gruden is a good guy and has the makings of a good coach. But it's a hornet's nest in DC for a number of reasons. Hope the guy gets the support he needs and doesn't burn out or get fired early. That's as much of the root of our problems as anything, IMHO.
We were a friggin 3 win team last year. No magic words will change us instantly into a contender. 5-6 wins is a good season in my book, so long as we see some progress with the team, particularly at QB. We've only been blown out of one game. The rest we were in and killed ourselves, mostly. That's fixable. Not sure if Haz is the guy, but I feel like Gruden has the stones to do it, given the chance.
